The Official Site of Major League Baseball: News: Rangers surge in AL All-Star voting

if the All Star game is going to decide home field advantage for the world series, they need to stop letting fans vote

look at the AL voting

these Dipshit Red Sox fans stuff the ballot boxes

Dustin Pedroia the #1 vote getting 2B in the AL? he is hitting .268 with 4 home runs and 29 RBIs and has almost 300,000 more votes than Ian Kinsler who is hitting .307 with 8 home runs and 36 RBIs, Jose Lopez who is hitting .297 with 5 home runs and 32 RBIs for the Mariners isint even listed.

and Jason Varitek being the #1 vote getting AL Cacther is a complete joke, Varitek does not even have enough at bats to qualify as a stat leader, and with that he is hitting a mighty .257 on the season good enough for 9th among AL catchers who have at least 100 ABs

Agreed, it needs to be 100% player/coach vote if it's actually going to mean something. Unfortunately, most of the people I know who watch sports are fucking stupid, and I don't think it's any different with most people..

I don't have a problem with fan voting, but I do think that MLB should be more active in discouraging fan voting by spectators at the MLB parks. The voting would probably be more reflective of actual year-to-year performance if you didn't have ushers handing families 10 ballots before the start of the game and reminding them to vote for their favorite teams' entire opening day starting lineup on every single ballot. MLB could curb a lot of the ballot box stuffing by limiting the distribution of ballots to fans at the end of the game when they leave the park, or maybe not make them available until the later innings during the last run to the concession stand. Another option would be to limit the distribution per park, so that a team that only draws 6,000 fans has an opportunity for equal vote representation against a team that is drawing 25,000+ every single day like the Bostons and Chicagos and New Yorks and so on.

As for Varitek, I don't have a problem with him being the AL catcher in any year no matter what his numbers are. So much emphasis is placed on the numbers and people forget how important being ... uh, a really good catcher is. You don't catch four no-hitters in your career by four different pitchers and consistantly lead your team to the playoffs by being a poor handler of pitchers and calling a bad game.
