Family sues Highway Patrol over woman's death

The family of a woman who died with two troopers in a fiery two-vehicle collision near Gallipolis today filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the State Highway Patrol. The lawsuit filed in the Ohio Court of Claims seeks more than $50,000 in damages stemming from the Sept. 28 death of Lori Smith, 32, of Vinton.
The suit claims negligence and willful misconduct on the part of the patrol and the troopers whom the family claims caused her death.
Sgt. Dale Holcomb, 45, and Trooper Joshua Risner, 29, also died in the rainy-morning collision on Jackson Pike.

I'm guessing the terminology has to do with some jurisdictional issue, like you get a jury trial in excess of 50K....sounds odd

Is this even worth the courts time....$50,000 when it is going to cost each side $100,000 plus for legal representation.

Maybe they are seeking more damages but I figured they would have stated that in the article.
