Buckeyes get grip on starting positions

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 From staff and wire reports
Senior Tim Shafer is the starting left guard and freshman Aaron Pettrey will handle the kicking duties according to the Ohio State depth chart for Saturday's opener with Northern Illinois, which was released on the school's Web site Monday night.
Those two positions were the only real competitions still alive in the final week of preseason camp, Shafer beating out Steve Rehring and Jon Skinner, while Pettrey outperformed sophomore Ryan Pretorius in Wednesday's special teams scrimmage.
On the defense, Vern Gholston and Jay Richardson are the starting ends, with David Patterson and Quinn Pitcock the tackles. James Laurinaitis is the starter at middle linebacker. Marcus Freeman is the strongside linebacker, while John Kerr is the starter on the weakside.

Malcolm Jenkins and Antonio Smith are the cornerbacks. Nick Patterson is the free safety, with Brandon Mitchell at strong safety.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will hold his first weekly luncheon of the season today at 11:30 a.m.

Nesw flash, Mister Football, these moves aren't set in stone yet...fall practices have just started and there have already been more than one changes to the depth chart and positions. 50,000 vCash says Laurinaitius doesn't stay at the Mike for the season opener...willing to put your vCash where your shutter finger is?

Looks like you should've taken that bet, Mister Football (JW)....

Antonio Smith scares me at corner... i don't doubt his ability or his heart, but he's only 5'9" and i have some nightmare flashbacks regarding a certain Thorpe Award winning 5'9" CB getting torched on jump ball after jump ball by a 6'5" receiver... this is a huge mismatch in the Horns favor...

We have taller options to replace Smith if that situation occurs. Although, if many DB's in college football get into a jump ball situation with a 6'5'' reciever and the QB has enough accuracy it doesn't matter who you stick on him.

Actually i was being as derisive to mili as he was being to me. and even more I hoped.
It definitly wasn't an admission of using drugs , which I have NEVER done in my life.
You see when you read my post it contains the word "seriously" which duplicates the word "seriously" in his post , where he meant it as a continuance. So I was using it derisively.
Got it?
