Women's basketball: Buckeyes' Beach reinjures surgically repaired knee

Kalpana Beach, a redshirt sophomore on the Ohio State women's basketball team, reinjured her surgically repaired right knee this week and faces possible further surgery.

A starting forward for the Buckeyes as a freshman, Beach missed the 2012-13 season after undergoing surgery to repair torn ligaments in the knee. She spent the past six months rehabilitating, with the expectation of returning to the court in November. Now that is on hold.

Beach announced the injury on her Twitter account: "Tore my ACL and MCL again - I can't believe this at all, but I'll be back. - Went up for a rebound and came down on one leg and it bent in."

Former Westlake basketball star Kalpana Beach?s college career at Ohio State has not gone the way she had hoped it would.

After starting 30 games as a freshman in 2011-12, Beach suffered a knee injury last October and was redshirted. Her rehab hit a snag in April as she reinjured her knee and had to have surgery once again.

Her status for this season is up in the air, but Beach is not going to let the injuries get to her. She has made some progress from her surgery and hopes to improve, but isn?t sure if she will play this season.

?Rehab is going good,? she said. ?I?m able to actually work out now. I just got off crutches not too long ago and I was wearing a big brace. But it?s going good now and I feel a lot better. I?m still deciding if I?m going to come back this year or wait and take another redshirt.?

When Beach sustained her first knee injury before last season, she was devastated because she wasn?t able to help her team on the floor.

?It was really hard just watching my team and not being able to get back out there,? she said. ?I was able to learn a lot by just watching all my teammates and everything. It was just like a different perspective.?
