F DeShaun "The Diesel" Thomas (Panathinaikos - Greece)

I think DeShaun Thomas has believed all along. His detractors didn't believe his freshman season.

As I've said many times in this thread. DeShaun Thomas is a pure scorer. Plain and simple he has a scorers mentality.

What is beautiful to see now if that he has become a very efficient scorer. He doesn't need a lot of volume to put up big numbers. Nearly a third of his shots taken are 3 pointers yet he is still shooting 53% from the field overall and 61% from two point range.

I think that high percentage can be attributed to his awesome finishing ability. You rarely see him miss in the paint. It's crazy how accurate he is, even with people in his face. Great finisher!

DeShaun's tourney performance is Mike Conley 2.0....Widely viewed as the "side-kick' but making huge splashes and receiving some well-deserved praise. Really looking like a 9-15 pick right now.

Seriously? Every mock draft I have seen doesn't even have him being drafted. I think you guys are getting caught up with what is happenening and not realizing all the other players that are out there. Remember DeShaun doesn't have very much to offer on the defensive side of the ball and that will really hurt him with the NBA scouts. I really see a good future for DeShaun but if he did leave this year he'd be a late 2nd rounder at best and destined for the D-League or overseas and I really don't want to see that happen.

How many mock drafts before the tournament in 2007 had Mike Conley being drafted?

This. How many dude's can flat out score it like Thomas at the college level? DeShaun may lack elite explosiveness or size for his position, but the dude can flat out put the ball in the cup. Thomas is best player in the tourney right now.

DeShaun is the best player in the tourney right now. He's turned it on at the right time...he is deadly near the rim, he rebounds and finishes quickly, is turning on his 3-point shooting, and I really think his defense is underrated. Sure he has some mental lapses on defense, but I'm not complaining about his defense, especially during the tourney. In sum, I think DeShaun is going to make one hell of an NBA player. He's long, he can score from anywhere, he can rebound, and his defense will suffice.

We will need him to make those 15 footers from the corners of the foul line against this zone. If the big men come up, dump it off to Sully or Smith, if they stay back, make the shot. We know he can do it because he has done it all year. :io:

Another thing about Thomas is he is so deadly off of pick and pop's. Something the NBA loves to run on about every trip down the floor. He's also cash from about the foul line and down.

Yep. Add to that the fact that he's left handed and shoots some of his shots a little awkwardly and you have a player that is very difficult to defend. He's going to make some money and it will be in the NBA.

Mock drafts updated as of today don't have him being drafted.

Doesn't matter in the least. When OSU plays their last game this year, it will be DeShaun's time to decide. Watch what happens if he declares.

Earlier I mentioned Royce White. He wasn't listed at all, in any of the mock drafts until he declared. Now he's mentioned as a mid first round pick.

Gentleman's bet, White goes in the top 10

I'll take that bet, he'll probably get drafted #11 lol. I'm not saying that I think DeShaun won't be good in the NBA I think he can be great, but the thing is in the NBA it is hard to even get your chance if your not a 1st rounder, so if he doesn't see his stock drematically rise he shouldnt declare. He may be a mid to late 2nd round pick but in a year he could be a lottery pick. His decision I know but I do t want to see him forced overseas or in the D-League.

That's because they don't expect him to make the jump - has nothing to do with where they expect him to go. If they don't expect a player to declare, they don't enter him in their mocks. Nobody expects him to make the leap, or DID, before the tourney.

I for one hope Deshaun returns as next year I think he can really blossom as a top 5 ncaa scorer. I really have high hopes next year when he and Lenzelle can gain confidence as "the" guys.....but let's wait and enjoy these last couple weeks before I think about that
