State?s all-time leading scorers
1. Damon Bailey, Bedford North Lawrence (1990): 3,134
2. Shanna Zolman, Wawasee (2002): 3,085
3. Marion Pierce, Lewisville (1961): 3,019
4. Deshaun Thomas, Bishop Luers (2010): 2,928
Deshaun Thomas will never again get a chance to play in front of the friendly Fort Wayne fans. So, as he has tried to do for the previous four years, the Bishop Luers senior forward set out to put on a big-time performance Friday at Memorial Coliseum.
The Ohio State recruit scored 38 points and had 18 rebounds as the Knights defeated North Side 116-64 in Thomas? Fort Wayne finale.
?We came out to have fun and get a big win,? Thomas said. ?This is my last ?home? game, and I just came out to put on a show in the Coliseum.
?(The Fort Wayne fans) have had my back since Day 1. I love Fort Wayne, and I hope they come down to Columbus and support me because I am going to need their help.?
The 6-foot-7 McDonald?s All-American played his final game in Fort Wayne against the high school that he could have attended, coming out of Northwood Middle School four years ago.
?I was supposed to go to North Side, but I think I made the best decision,? Thomas said.
?I got to the right school, and they have helped me a lot. North Side is still my family over there. I treat them like brothers and sisters over there.?
Thomas now has 2,928 career points, 206 behind Damon Bailey for the state record of 3,134.
The Mr. Basketball favorite, Thomas is averaging 32 points but needs to average 35 and the Knights must keep winning through a possible six postseason games for Thomas to get the record.
Thomas needs 91 more points to move into third place on the all-time list (3,019 of Marion Pierce) and 157 points for second place (3,085 of Shanna Zolman).
