Magic Reunite with Bo Outlaw, Sign Four Others
(09.29.05) — ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The Orlando Magic signed five free agents today, including forwards Matt Freije and Bo Outlaw, and guard Felipe Lopez.

A second-round pick by Miami in 2004, the 6-foot-10 Freije appeared in 23 games last season with New Orleans, averaging four points and two-point-seven rebounds. He was waived by the Hornets in January.
Outlaw averaged one-point-four rebounds in 39 games last season with Phoenix. The 12-year NBA veteran first played with the Magic from 1997 to 2001.
Lopez was once a highly touted New York prep star. He has spent parts of five seasons with Vancouver, Washington and Minnesota, averaging five-point-eight points.
The Magic also signed two free agents -- center Ken Johnson and forward Terence Morris.
Johnson was a second-round pick by Miami in 2001. He played in 34 games last season in France, averaging eleven points, five rebounds and two blocks. The former Ohio State standout holds the Big Ten record for career shots blocked with 444.
Morris was also a second-round choice in 2001. He's averaged almost four points and three rebounds in 117 career N-B-A games with Houston. The Magic open training camp next week in Jacksonville.

One of the former student-athletes who is enrolled in the DCP is Ken Johnson, a teammate of Penn on the men's basketball team that made it to the NCAA Final Four in 1999.

"I was a little bit nervous about coming back, being older and everything," Johnson said. "Mr. Macko was just excellent with me. He was walking through every step with me and he made it a lot easier to do this."

For former student-athletes, knowing that they're interested in going back to school is often the easy part. Knowing what to use the degree on after they've earned it can be a bit more difficult.

Johnson, who is working on getting his art degree, laughed when asked what he plans to use it for.

"That's an excellent question," Johnson said. "I'm so nervous about it. I love kids, so if there's anything open for me in the teaching field, I would absolutely love to teach art."
