gbear.. I was the one that made the leap from eye exam to surgery... IMO if ya got $400 staring ya in the face... for new contacts, new lenses in the glasses (gotta have a spare set) and all the associated supplies... best time to make the surgery jump... think of it as a down payment toward never needing that crap again...

forgetting about eye infections... forgetting about needing a fork to pry them out after a rough nite at the bars... forgetting about your eyes' refusal to open to let them back in the day after said night... opening your eyes and reading the clock instead of groping for the specs... forgetting about the pain of sand or dirt in your eye at the beach with contacts... ripped contacts... ahhhhhh...

I also know there are a couple very good Dr's in Columbus.. because a couple of them were actually part of the LASIKs test phase years back...

sushie dear.. what's your Dads take on the LASIKs issue??

NJ,

If you don't have insurance (and planned for the cost through a flex spending or medical spending account... use part of uncle sams $$$ to help pay for the surgery) it might be a good idea.

If you have insurance the exam, lenses, frames, etc are covered (frames up to $150 or so... at least for our plan).

I'd like to get the surgery done, however as of right now insurance will not pay for it. Every year the technology improves, and the prices have been decreasing over time... I'll get it done at some point... not sure how far in the future though... as of right now I pay a few bucks for the extra cost of a good pair of frames every few years... outside of that, insurance picks up 100% of the bill. I don't see a reason to spend a few grand on something that works fine right now (glasses), and is basically free...

If my insurance changes/current coast increase, I might look into it further... until that time, I fine letting the current LASIK technology improve, as the costs also drop. (My dad had his eyes done many, many years ago... the bill was in the multiple thousands... might have been pushing ten grand if not more... today you can get a much better procedure done for a grand or so).

I can understand the practical approach... but IMO it's the best money I ever spent on myself... and I wish I had done it 10 years earlier... when they dialed me into 20/20 and I could see things I never saw with contacts or glasses... it was like landing in Oz...

I bet your Dad never regretted the expense... regardless of the amt...

I'm not sellin... nothing to gain... but I am promoting... damn it's nice to have perfect vision.. every day... every minute...

Nearly 85% of Internet users now suffer from some form of vision problem as a result of computer screen eye strain. While the eye exam shown below is not considered an official medical device, it can indicate whether you should consult a vision care specialist.

I tried to read it, but my eyes fell out.

Last Man: Finally, solitude. I can read books for all eternity! [drops his glasses] It's not fair, it's not fair! [calms down] Wait, my eyes aren't that bad; I can still read the large-print books. [reaches for a book, his eyes fall out] [hysterical] It's not f- [calms down] Well, lucky I know how to read Braille. [He screams as his hands fall off, his tongue then falls out before his head falls off.]
