Excess from ND/UM hate thread

Depends on who those one or two kids are. You don't think losing some like Chris Wells or Alex Boone (or Ted Ginn or Troy Smith a few years back) would've effected our program? Come on...

Good point. To maintain your position at the elite level of college football, you have to have the difference makers. As much as it pains me to say this, Weis is going to pull players out of Ohio. The key is keeping the guys who can "change the game" at home. Ohio State's record under JT speaks for itself. Hopefully, the targeted recruits and their families recognize this.

I think you're short-changing Tressel if you think he can't get prime-time players at tOSU, Weiss or no Weiss. There will be plenty of gamebreakers for tOSU. You just provided the example: Chris Wells. I doubt ND's Hype actually gets too much bigger than now and its not like we lost Wells. And you seemed to have missed the 2nd part of my post. As long as we're getting oppurtunities to compete for the National Championship that proves we're getting the players. Seriously even after we lose 5 players in the first 2 rounds of the draft next year do you really think there will be that much of a dropoff. Didn't think so.

Haven't seen any posts short-changing JT in any fashion. What was mentioned was that a recharged ND will threaten tOSU's "fence around the state" when it comes to recruiting. This goes without saying. ND, with Weis, will be a competitor. Hopefully, the top guns will choose to be Buckeyes.

No one is saying that Tressel can't get top-notch players, but if you think that a stronger, more-hyped Notre Dame won't make our recruiting more difficult then you've got your head in the sand (or somewhere else). And just because we got Chris Wells specifically doesn't dispel the possibility that Weis could steal a top-notch recruit that we otherwise would've got had Weis not been at Notre Dame.

Not saying it won't be more difficult. I'm not saying we won't lose a recruit. Wells was more of an example that we can still get top-notch recruits, not that we won't lose them. All I'm saying is at the end of year tOSU will still be a top-notch Title Contender year in and year out Weiss or No Weiss. I have trouble believing that anyone here on this sight would disagree with that statement. And there is still no reason to hate ND more than scUM even if they do get some Ohio boys. scUM does the same.

I know a lot of people have a problem with their fans. I know only one. He is a knowledgeable sports fan and a good guy and friend. He has no illusions about the ass-whipping ND was handed last year by tOSU.

I will say people on Message boards get ballsey. People on this sight get pretty angry about ND too. There's ignorant fans everywhere and in general boards like those breed them. I really wouldn't expect an ND message board to be different than you showed me. I guess overall I think I would agree that their fans seem bandwagonish and unreasonable/unknowledge able about other teams but that's because bandwagon fans don't know much. Its like the Yankees everyone hates the Yankees, but as a Reds fan I hate the Cubs much more.

Edit: Who is that in your ND avatar?

Tressel is a great recruiter and developer of talent... OSU will not disappear even with ND cherry picking some key recruits. But pretending like ND is not a growing monster in recruiting is pretty naive. Perhaps that will go away if ND struggles this year, but right now Weis is on fire with recruiting.

I don't read the reference locker very much, so have to say I'm really surprised to find this thread. I guess when it comes down to Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, I don't understand what the coach, the "style of offense," or the previous record has to do with anything in terms of who we recruit.

I want kids that want to be Buckeyes. If Brady Quinn chooses Notre Dame over Ohio State, then fine, I didn't want him anyway.

Recruiting is, I think, highly overrated. Ohio State was really pretty bad in 1999, not even going to a bowl. Who'd Coop sign? Alex Stepanovich, Darrion Scott, Will Allen, Brandon Joe, Josh Huston, Michael Jenkins, Shane Olivea, Will Smith, and Robert Reynolds, among others. Coop finally was given the last inch of rope to hang himself in January 2001, so despite the fact that OSU still wasn't very good, had a new coach, and an abbreviated recruiting season, OSU landed: Dustin Fox, Simon Fraser, Brandon Schnittker, Chris Vance, Ryan Hamby, Chris Gamble, Marcus Green, Mike Nugent, Lydell Ross and Maurice Hall.

So, the '99-'00 recap: Bob Davie appeared to be turning Notre Dame around, getting a nine win season and a BCS bowl appearance. Lloyd had back-to-back wins over OSU, back-to-back bowl wins vs quality SEC opponents, a 10 win season, and a Big-10 co-championship. Ohio State had gone a collective 14-10, had fired its coach, hired some guy in a sweatervest nobody outside of NE Ohio had ever heard of before, and been embarassed in a bowl loss to South Carolina.

Does that sound like the recipe for Ohio State inking the bulk of a 14-0 National Championship team? It would sound even worse if I listed all the names of the '99 and '00 committs that left, got cut, or wound up in jail.

Kids who want to be Buckeyes will be Buckeyes and excell under JT. Anybody else who chooses Notre Dame or Michigan over Ohio State gets whatever they deserve.
