ex-Miami/ex-Louisville LB Willie Williams (official thread)

Re: "I consider myself a very lucky guy, a very lucky and blessed guy,'' Williams said. "Who knew someone could have this many chances? This is basically a whole 'nother chance for me, and I feel very lucky.''

Apparently he just no longer feels "very lucky" and "blessed" at scUM (south).

lol if you think Coker needs him your sadly mistaken... We took a chance on him and he was supposedo to be this great linebacker but yet he has been an under achiever since he has been here at the U...the fact that during all of spring practice he was extremely sick doesn't help his case... if he leaves the U he has pretty much no where to go... but whoever gets him (if he decides to transfer) will get a very slim WW because he lost about 15-20 pounds when he was sick...

Help me with this please........if a player requests a release how can any school give it to him/her and stipulate that you cannot go to X league? Is that a condition of the release, or just something that they do in the South? Never heard of it here, just say good-bye and good luck.

Appreciate the info......maybe he should have stuck with eating four lobsters and three steaks at the training table (like he did on his recruiting trip), at least it's legal........

Does anyone have a glimmer whether Tress & Co knew what a bad actor this bird was? Methinks they had a clue, as it appears that we've dodged several hi-profile 'bullets' (Aleaze and the Minny guy) that haven't panned out.

That opens a huge hole at the U....they were counting on him to provide critical leadership during their next bench-clearing, post-bowl-game brawl.

Damn, the sad part about that was Miami got their ass beat on the field and from what the cameras shown, they got their butt whipped off the field too.

Great comment! props to you, take some greenies fella.

Honestly, how could any school not have a clue that he wasn't going to be a great fit in any system. All the talent in the world with perfect size, but was arrested many times before he got to college. Miami took a HUGE chance on him, but it certainly does not look like it will be worth it.

.

exactly... i was concerned about it when they brought him in but then he never really had any issues and now it just seems like he doesn't appreciate what was given to him... he is pissed because he hasn't cracked the first string linebacker rotation... if you cant beat out the other linebackers to be 1st string there not alot to say...

CBS.Sportsline weighs in on the story.

Former top recruit Williams asks for release from Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Willie Williams has asked Miami to release him from his scholarship, and is beginning the process of finding a new school.

The linebacker - who was allowed to enroll at Miami two years ago despite having 11 entries on his arrest record - was touted as one of the nation's best defensive players coming out of high school, but never became a starter with the Hurricanes.

"Whatever is best for Willie, I will be in favor of," Miami coach Larry Coker said in a statement released by the school.

Williams has not yet enrolled at any other school, and it's still possible that he could return to the Hurricanes if he changes his mind. Practice for the 2006 season begins next month.

Williams signed with Miami on Feb. 4, 2004, the day his arrest record became known publicly. He spent a few days in jail for violating probation, then had his admission to Miami scrutinized, delayed, and eventually allowed, provided he adhered to strict academic and off-field ground rules.

He was redshirted for the 2004 season because of a knee injury, then appeared mostly as a backup and special-teams standout in 2005.

for anyone who missed the WW recruiting diaries, you can still read a couple of them here:

http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t13217.html

you can't make this stuff up:

Willie said:
''They told me they heard about my trip to FSU and how I love to eat,'' Williams said. 'They were like, `Willie, Why don't you have a few snacks before we go to dinner.' So, I served myself like six little plates of everything.''

Following the ''snack,'' Williams and the recruits headed for a restaurant called Old Charlie's. After experiencing a long wait for his food on his trip to FSU, Williams made sure to sit at the front of the table near the waiter to order first.

"I really wanted to go to Red Lobster for some more lobster and steak, but they told me the wait was two hours. So I got me some babyback ribs, buffalo wings and shrimp,'' Williams said. ``Even though I ordered first, somehow, I was still the last one to get my food. It took them like two hours.''

During the wait, several of the female hosts, nicknamed the ''Tigerettes'', offered him some of their spinach dip.

''You know how it is, those girls are supposed to be there to cheer you up,'' Williams said. ``But I told them, `I ain't no animal, and I ain't going to eat no plant.'

"But they kept pushing it toward me. It was disgusting. I told them, `I'm from Miami. I don't eat that. You farm people are used to it, but not me.''
