Everett Golson (official thread)

Everett is not point A to point B fast and he will not wow you in a forty. What Everett does have is excellent lateral quickness making it extremely hard for opposing defenses to get a square hit on him. Most times defenders miss him completely and he is able to extend plays with this ability. I can't tell you the number of times Everett has rolled out and a defender looks to have him until Everett either stops on a dime or does a quick stutter making the defender miss and to pull the db's off a receiver to complete the pass. I also have never seen a high school quarterback with the ability to get a pass off with guys right up in his grill, and then take some of the hits he has only to bounce straight up off the rug after a completed pass. We are in the middle of spring practice here and theboys are riding high on confidence. I'm excited for the season to begin. From what I know, we will closely resemble Texas Tech this upcomming season in terms of our offensive playcalling.

Nah, I won't be making that trip. What is your prediction for the game?
Byrnes is loaded to the gills. Lattemore was a beast last year and he could have only gotten better. I honestly think our offense can hang with any team in the state, if not the country. I'm concerned about our defense for obvious reasons (losing Scott Early). We have a few kids that showed up this spring much bigger with signs of hitting the weight room very hard. Coach Owens will have his hands full without a doubt. It will be a great game, I don't think they will blow us out and we have a shot to catch them sleeping. They are a really well coached team with tons of talent so we will need to play absolutely flawless to pull it out. One positive that works in our favor is they will have little film on our wide-outs, since our offensive game plan focused on Valentine heavily last year. There's a lot of speed and talent coming up in this area, so we may use this to our advantage. I will be happy making it through Sept at 2-2. That is a brutal schedule comprising of two state champions with all of the games being on the road (@ Byrnes, @ Dillon, @ Hartsville, @ Conway). One things for sure, it will test the kids grit and have them playing "play-off" ball in Sept.

I was wrong, Byrnes is the best high school TEAM I've ever seen, top to bottom. I can't wait until the play St. Thomas Aquanis later this season to decide who really is the best team in the country. I watched Elder play Colerain yesterday on television, I don't think they are quite in the same class as Byrnes and St. Thomas as far as atheletes. Byrnes could have scored 150 pts on MB if they wanted to, but they called off the dogs in the 4th qtr. Everett had no time to throw, and no seperation with his receivers. Too many atheletes on the field for Byrnes. 65-14, ouch! Back to 3A, now we know where to set the bar as far as building a program at the highest level. FWIW, Everett is almost a lock to go to Chapel Hill unless Matta and Tress make a serious push.

How did Byrnes call off the dogs in the 4th when MB's coaches agreed to a running clock in the 2nd half and Byrnes' starters only played 1 possession after half when it was 58-7?

Fruedian slip, meant 2nd half not 4th. Sorry if that caused you dispair.

Michigan offers Golson

Myrtle Beach junior quarterback Everett Golson received an official offer from Michigan on Thursday, Seahawks coach Mickey Wilson said.

The list of official offers for Golson now includes Michigan, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, Duke and Stanford.

Wilson said he believes Golson could fit into Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez?s offense that uses the quarterback as a runner quite a bit.

"He is athletic enough to do it," Wilson said. "We just don?t run him a lot in our system."

Wilson said Golson hasn't heard from South Carolina this season. He said he talked to them over the summer but hasn't heard anything since then.

The Michigan offer may begin a flood of offers from around the country. Most of Golson's offers have been from regional schools with the exception of Stanford, which is a unique situation because of their academic standards, and Virginia Tech, who has ties to the school.

Wilson said schools like Georgia and LSU have called and expressed some interest in Golson.

Seahawks take to ground
MYRTLE BEACH -- The normally high-flying Seahawks used a potent running game to beat Midland Valley 38-7 on Friday night.
. . .
Option quarterback Morgan Byrd rushed for 102 yards and three TDs while passing QB Everett Golson and running back Daiquone Ford also ran in for scores. Golson still had a strong night, completing 16 of 25 for 256 yards, but failed to add to his 36 passing TDs.
. . .
Golson had about five passes dropped by his receivers on the night but did manage to move the Seahawks deep into Mustangs' territory through the air. But with Midland Valley trying to confuse him with mixed coverages, the seas parted for the running game.

. . .
Scrambling to find an open receiver, Golson tucked the ball in and broke several tackles on the way to a 21-yard TD score. The Seahawks managed the clock wisely and Byrd scored with just 1:30 left in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into the locker room.
. . .
Myrtle Beach will face North Charleston next week at Doug Shaw Stadium for the right to play in the Lower State Finals.

Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson looked like he might be trapped for a loss, but he scrambled and turned this play into a touchdown against Midland Valley in the second round of the AAA playoffs at Doug Shaw Stadium, Friday night.

The game against N. Charleston was like watching an experienced X-boxer play a stiff in a game of Madden, it was not even close from the very get go. 4 plays, 14-0 to start the first 1:48 of the game, not bad. We will have better competition this Friday as Marlboro County comes in to Doug Shaw for the lower state championship game. We had a scrimmage earlier this pre-season and we were up 28-14 at halftime before both coaches began subbing players in. I still feel UNC is where Everett ends up. He met with coach Williams a few weeks back and everything sounded very positive and he was told there is a place on the BB team for him if he does go to Chapel Hill. Time will tell. I don't think Everett has enough size to play in the Big10 anyway, just look at how Tate Forcier(sp?) broke down as the season progressed. Besides, he doesn't like cold weather either.

Seahawks crush Bulldogs in 3A semifinal
The Associated Press
. . .
Boyd's team couldn't keep up once the Seahawks caught fire in the second half. Seahawks quarterbacks Everett Golson and Morgan Byrd combined for three third-quarter touchdown runs that put the game out of reach. By the middle of the fourth quarter, most of Marlboro's fans - the school brought a group of several thousand - had already started heading home.
. . .
Myrtle Beach went three-and-out on its first drive, but Alford fumbled deep in his own territory on the ensuing drive and Cobb recovered. Golson hit Dallas Goodman for a 13-yard gain on third-and-nine and then the junior signal caller tied the game with a four-yard scoring run.

On Myrtle Beach's next possession, Golson engineered a clock-eating drive that kept the ball away from the Bulldogs for 7:41 in the second quarter. On the fourth play of the drive, Thomas dropped an interception, and the Seahawks made him pay.

Golson hooked up with Goodman for an 18-yard gain on fourth-and-10 deep in Marlboro territory, and then again on a six-yard touchdown five plays later. The Seahawks led 14-7 with 4:04 left in the first half after the 16-play drive.
. . .
Taking over with 2:33 left, Golson drove the Seahawks to Marlboro's 9 in nine plays. With 9.5 seconds left in the half, Jordan Butler kicked a 26-yard field goal to give Myrtle Beach a two-score advantage.
