ESPN talking heads 'May' say what they really believe

Lets all remember its not Mark May saying this stuff. Its his writers at ESPIN. Its as scripted as pro wrestling with every sentence designed to agitate people and drive ratings/clicks. No one knows marketing like the mouse. Herbie, may and the rest are just well paid bit actors.

I wish we could get to the point where we don't dance when they grind the organ.

You don't actually believe that they tell them what opinions to have do you?

as much as the espn hype machine kicks into overdrive every year, and as much as i'm sure producers push certain matchups to be more significant than they actually are, i doubt very much that anyone is telling these guys what to say beyond "pump up this matchup" or "check out this player"

sometimes i think the actual organ grinding come from the fans who get so caught up in every perceived slight or insult that they lose sight of what's really important: guys like beanie wells just generally being awesome.

beanie is going to be great this year, and i don't realy care how a douchebag like mark may or anybody else tries to contextualize it. i'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride to manhattan

Disagree........why does every match-up have one analyst on one side and another on the other. They both debate why their pick is going to win.

Is it just coincidence they always pick opposite teams? These guys are puppets.

Why does Herbstreit consistently contradict himself on ESPN vs. Columbus radio? I mean, that debate has been beating to death, but when someone blatantly has 2 different opinions based on his demographic, it is a pretty strong tell on what is happening.

All about the ratings...

Exactly and I remember a few years ago Herbie had to argue against Troy and the Bucks in 06 and he had to pick someone else to win the NC but he said "I think Ohio State is going to win it all but I was given the blah card".

It's just extremely unlikely. People's perceptions of what they think ESPN and other media outlets do is just amazing to me. I find it hilarious that they actually think ESPN is scheming against any one football program and telling people what to say.

Conspiring against them? No. Targeting them at times? Absolutely. Cowherd does it about 20 times a day.

Danielson left because he was sick of being told what to say.

Skip bayless was promoted (to a half dozen segments a day at times) for no reason other than to be difficult. I've never heard a single insightful word out
of his mouth, and I seriously doubt he can play darts, let alone play a contact sport.

Smart, insightful, polite analysts like aldridge are fired, and smith promoted. Again, entertainment, reaction and ratings... Screw quality insight. I actually like screaming smith at times for his entertainment, but he should not be the mortensen/Clayton level expert to turn to with every nba rumor or upcoming game.

It's not scheming against a program (no one is saying that) - it's constantly generating debate when there isn't any to be had ONLY TO HAVE A DEBATE on the topic.

Absolutely E$$$$$$PN is making their people take a side just to create a stir.

Do you work for or at ESPN? If not then it's second hand info at best and I will forever be skeptical of info that isn't first hand.

ummm hello?? E$$$PN has a roving hit squad named E:60 for the exact purpose of putting people on the spot for essentially no reason other than to generate ratings.

if they were actually only about the news and not the hype, this wouldn't exist.
