England Dan dead at 61

Dan Seals, Pleasant Grove youth who grew up to be music star, dies at 61 | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Breaking News for Dallas-Fort Worth | Dallas Morning News

Dan Seals, the kid from Pleasant Grove who emerged as a country music star after performing as one-half of the top 40 hit machine known as England Dan & John Ford Coley, died Wednesday night from complications of lymphoma.


Seals, 61, was born in West Texas but moved to Dallas as a teenager. He graduated from Samuell High School in Pleasant Grove in 1966. He and classmate John Colley, who later changed the spelling of his last name to Coley, formed a group with three other Samuell students called the Playboys Five. That became Theze Few, which morphed into the legendary Dallas high school band Southwest F.O.B.

Probably not too many fans here, but his song Bop is one of my mom's favorites.

I'm not much of a country boy but I actually think this version is much better than the gayass original. I honestly didn't know Dan Seals country singer was England Dan until today.

Dan's older brother is Jimmy Seals of Seals and Crofts (Summer Breeze, Diamond Girl, We May Never Pass This Way Again, etc,).

Long ago, Steve19 was a muscian and Danny Seals was a personal friend. He was a really decent man, in every possible way. I am deeply saddened that he fought cancer so long and lost.

BB73 is right, Jimmy is his older brother and in recent years they had taken to gigging together.

In the words of his religious beliefs, "We have made death a messenger of joy."

Danny, long may you run!

Didn't see your comment Jake. Dan's love for country music probably was the real reason that England Dan and John Ford Coley split up. I don't think John had any real success aftewards, but Dan did very well in the 1980s with country music.
