WTEXBUCK

Born a Buckeye
Greetings Buckeye Faithful,

I am in the process of getting out of the military and hope to relocate back to the Ohio area. If any of you have leads, contacts, ideas, or advice for finding a job in the Electronics or Information Technology fields I would appreciate it very much.

My resume can be found at http://resumes.hotjobs.com/gobucks4/networktechtrainer.

If you know someone who would be interested in seeing this I will be glad to email you a formatted version.

Thank you all for your time and help in advance.

Ryan

Tex,

I see you went to Kent State. You are as screwed as KSB and myself, both KSU alums.

Mili was an AF lifer and is a tech guy, but he lives in paradise. There are quite a few tech guys on this site so give it a couple of days. I'm not sure what the IT sector is like in OH, but someone like Iambrutus might be able to give some insight.

PS - The top of the window when I opened up your resume said it was the resume of Sandra Williamson. The resume itself had Ryan Couts. You might want to check that out.

If you are a graduate of KSU, you should contact their Career Services office and see what alumni services they have for you to take advantage. These offices usually offer their services for free or a small $25-$50 fee.

Hopefully you will find something by November, but if you are still looking, keep in mind that Cleveland State hosts the region's largest job fair every autumn and spring. The one for this autumn is scheduled on November 4 and is open to the public.

WTEX, if you're wanting to work here in Columbus, I would suggest talking to the people at Quick Solutions, along with all of the other IT staffing firms. You can find out who has open positions here by searching Information Technology jobs in the Columbus area on Monster.com or some other site. The contracting firms usually can get you placed somewhere faster than you could get there through the usual methods. It's contract work, which carries its own risks. But it's a foot in the door, and sometimes that is all you need.

Since you have a quant background, let me know if you want to work in NYC. I run a group of about a dozen analysts and associates doing structuring/analytics for a Wall St investment bank.

I wont lie to you - the job can be intense as hell while the market is open and the hours can suck (not M&A hours, but forget 9-5), but the long term opporutunities are unparalled. Further, the pay is commensurate with the industry.

Also, competition for these spots is significant - I usually see about 700 resumes for every spot I fill. But if you are genuinely interested, PM me and Ill have you send me a resume.

Just my $.02.

We get slammed with unsolicited resumes all the time. Having a degree is good, but having the networking experience you do is much better. I would concur with 89 that you need to start contacting the local IT placement shops now so they know who you are and what you can do. Get a foot in the door and complete your degree at night if possible. Project management is a big need so I would concentrate on that aspect of your experience.

Good luck.

Can I do the quant job remotely?

Does your company use resumix to weed out the non-qualifying resumes. Anybody have any tips on getting through those electronic screeners?
