Emerald Bowl - Miami 17, Cal 24 (Final)

Randy Shannon apparently found the performance of the 2-minute drill to be 'offensive'. Nix has since stated that he wanted to run a more wide-open scheme.

Miami fires offensive boss Nix

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Patrick Nix was fired Monday after two seasons as Miami's offensive coordinator, the first of what could be plenty of significant changes to the Hurricanes this offseason.
Nix packed up his office Monday evening after a brief meeting with Miami coach Randy Shannon.

Marve - Suspended for Emerald Bowl now decides to transfer.

Quarterback Robert Marve is leaving Miami, ending weeks of speculation about his future and adding to the tumultuous start of the Hurricanes' offseason.Marve started 11 of 13 games this season for the Hurricanes, but also served a pair of suspensions in unrelated incidents, including one that kept him out of the Emerald Bowl.
He told The Associated Press on Tuesday in a telephone interview that he had asked coach Randy Shannon for a release from his scholarship and it had been granted.
"I had to get out," Marve told the AP from his family's home in Tampa. "I just decided that I can't play for coach Shannon."

Miami Hurricanes give quarterback Marve OK to transfer -- with stipulations... - Breaking News - Sports - MiamiHerald.com

"Shannon gave him the release with that stipulation.
I've never heard of that before. The ACC [ban] is reasonable.
The SEC is ridiculous. There are a lot of schools in the SEC
that never see Miami. This has gone to a personal attack
against my son, and it will not go without challenge. This
is a shameful day that Shannon has brought to the University
of Miami. This is a shameful day for Randy Shannon and what
he represents, and every recruit should watch out for what
you're seeing happening to Robert Marve."

Two thoughts: 1) Marve's daddy needs to shut the hell up before he ruins his son's propects.
2) it is shitty for Shannon to limit Marve from the ACC, SEC, and all Florida schools. Hell, the ACC I can see, and for him he not wanting Marve to go to UF or FSU - I can see it, even though it is chicken shit. We let Brock go to Miami with no strings, even though we gave them a starting QB. But I can see it. However, saying he can't go to all SEC schools is bull. LSU needs him now, so maybe Wandy thinks that duh U will see LSU in the future. OK. But that does not explain the need to bar the kid from, say, Mississippi State, which has a faint hope of ever being a threat to Miami.

Randy is just being pissy and vindictive. He is a whiney little shit, and it is good for our head to head recruiting battles to see this. To be fair, Jarred Fayson x-ferred to Zookland, and I do not know what restrictions - if any - Urban put on him. I think Urban helped get him to Illinois, but that might have been some propoganda I read. Anyway, it seems to be meanspirited to deny a kid a chance to play where he wants after he has to wait a year, or at least to stop him from playing at schools ouside of your conference.

How does Tress handle these issues?

I think it helps the coaches in the Big 10 that a rule is already in place you cannot transfer from one big 10 school to another....so the coaches don't look like the bad guy.

That isn't to say a player can't transfer and pay his own way. Marve could walk-on at any school he likes. One of our starting guards will be a former starter from Michigan, who is paying his own way.

Agree with your premise, Gator.
How does Tress handle these issues?
Tressel is generally known for being instrumental and supportive in players moving on, even if they screw up royally. With fallen star recruit Irizarry, he visited him in prison and helped him get back on his feet at YSU when he got out.

Can't wait to hear the reaction when Justin Boren takes on Mike Martin or Obi Ezeh in that splendid 3-3-5

Randy Shannon continues to prove that he is a giant douche.

And where do I remember reading a Miami fan saying (at the beginning of the year) that Marve was better than Pryor and that Da U would be in a BCS Bowl?

Knowing Miami fans, I don't know that they'd make that statement about that QB (Marve). Most Miami fans I have known since the start of this season don't like Marve and wanted Harris to be the QB throughout. Goes back to the fact that Harris was a local star who won two straight 6A titles with Northwestern.
