The Ohio State University’s Women’s Volleyball Team’s season ended after advancing in the NCAA’s Sweet 16 for the fourth time since 2010.

Friday December 11th in Lexington, KY the Buckeyes fell to the AVCA’s top-ranked team in the nation – the Washington Huskies – taking them through five sets to earn their victory (23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 12-25, 15-8).

The Buckeyes end the season 25-10 overall.

In the loss to the Huskies Elizabeth Campbell delivered 24 kills at a .315 attacking pace. She would include 5 put-aways in the final set alone. She added 12 digs. It would be her 12th double-double of the season and 19th in her career as a Buckeye. Taylor Hughes had a double-double as well with 20 assists and 14 digs. She would conclude the night with 44 assists, 22 digs (a career high), five blocks and five kills.

Middle blockers Taylor Sandbothe and Tyler Richardson combined for 18 kills, five solo blocks and seven block assists. Valeria León would also make her presence known with 16 digs which brought her yearly total to 564. Her season average on digs of 4.31is the highest rate in The Ohio State University’s history. Sandbothe too would wiggle into the Buckeyes history books. Her 160 total blocks are the second-highest total ever for a player that has worn the Scarlet & Gray – Dawn McDougall in 1989 would have more with 168.

The Buckeyes played hard against the top-ranked Huskies. The 25-23 Buckeye taking of the first set was just the 16th set defeat Washington witnessed in the entire season.

Campbell would end her Buckeye career with five kills in the final set.

Thank you Elizabeth for the wondrous year. We wish you continued success on your next journey.

The Buckeyes had a fantastic ride this year. It was a joy as a fan to watch this team through their up’s & down’s. I can attest to the fact that there were certainly more up’s too just glance over at the final victory column (25-10).

A fine team returns for the 2016 season. Buckeye Nation is looking ahead too.
