EDPAES 620.04 - tOSU Football Coaching Class

I was wondering if anyone else on here is taking this class this quarter?

If not does anyone who lives in the Columbus area have any suggestions for High School programs that would be a good option to view a practice and a game for this class....:osu:

Thanks

I thought about taking it before I graduated last spring but god I hate 7:30 classes. Are you wanting just a game to watch or a good game to watch? Those are two completely separate things.

Having conversations with tressel after class has already been worth taking this class. What a down to earth coach...I like him even more now and have become even more of a homer if that is possible.

Are you familar with any of the local coaching staffs? We need to go to a couple games and view a practice and break it down by period. I'd like to find a coach who wouldn't be annoyed too much LOL

Not really I'm from down south east. Practice will be harder that one you might want to to talk to Tressel about. See which coaches he's had that allowed it in the past and start there.

I already talked to coach Jefferson and we're pretty much on our own!!!!!! hahahaha

That's awesome man... I would love to be in this class. If I went to OSU, I'd definitely take it. Also would have loved to hear your conversations with Tressel.

I think I'm already in his doghouse :(....my last name starts w/ a 'B' and I got there when he was doing roll call and he was in the 'E's'. After class I told him I was there but I got in a minute late, he said you gotta get here early since your in the 'B's' LOL Today was pretty funny because he was calling out all the Bengals fans. He said 'where is all that Bengals gear I saw in here last week????'

How difficult was it to get into the class? Was there a big waitlist?
Generally, no. The 7:30 start time scares anyone away that's not seriously interested in taking it. I know of frosh and sophs that get into it. It's also taught at the woody which isn't exactly walking distance.
Good things about the class is when there are away games, friday class is cancelled. lol

If you don't mind the 35 minute drive down to Lancaster I am sure Rob Carpenter would be accommodating.

Coaching Class circa 1970's

I took the coaching class at OSU in the 1970's. Professor for the class was supposed to be none other than Woody Hayes. So I get prepared for my first class. I am totally excited and intimidated. I have a tape recorder so as not to miss a word. I get to the classroom real early to get prepared. I set up and wait. In walks Coach Hayes. A few other students arrive. Class starts and I click on the recorder. Coach Hayes perks up and spies the recorder and walks over to my seat. He asks, "what is that?" I say, "Coach I don't want to miss anything and I will listen to the class recording to make sure my notes are complete." Coach looks me dead in the eye, and says to me, "If you can't keep up, get out, turn that damn thing off." I turn it off and darn near pass out.

Coach Hayes taught the class about once a week. and assistants took the other days. I spoke to Coach Hayes a few times after that and he was cordial.

I did learn from him. I can still hear him say, " double team the inside of the hole on running plays every chance you get."

Yes I was about 20 on the wait list and people starting dropping like flies over the summer and after the first class even more people dropped out.

Thanks for the High School recommendations guys!!!!!
