Early Verbal To Hold Your Spot

Cant speak for Pittman but there is talk that a couple of in-state kids verbaled elsewhere to sort of "hold a spot" while the dust settles around OSU. This might allow them to take another look down the road. Not sure if Pittman or Dodson might be one of those kids but we shall see. McMullen is gone and ain't coming back...

maybe this is a discussion for a different thread, but wouldn't these types of kids fall into a category or "if they aren't 100% for us through thick and thin, we don't want them anyway?"

I just wonder how many have committed because they have been told, OSU is facing crazy sanctions, and commit now or we give your spot away. I believe the legal term is, under duress. If the coache's story turns out to be completely false pretenses, I don't blame the recruit at all.

Furthermore, we have stood in line as number two, to welcome a recruit with open arms. Curtis Grant, last year was a good example. We didn't tell him, because you weren't a Buckeye from day one, we don't want you.

How about the possibility that your spot could be taken by someone else who doesnt wait. Will there even be room for Dodson or Kalis if they changed their mind if we find someone else for the spot. Those spots could very well be gone by Jan. or Feb. Seems to me that Kalis is very much different than Dodson in that he committed and then reaffirmed and then went a completely different direction and even to our biggest rival. Let him compete with the other 5(if Diamond commits) tackles. Go Bucks

Kalis and Dodson might not be the best examples...those are kids that I think any school would make room for regardless of what their current situation was.

Time to revisit some of the verbals after 5:15 today.

I'm not part of the "if they weren't 100% with us before we don't want them" crowd. It is very easy to say that but when it's your future it's different. With the uncertainty surrounding our situation, and the type of kids we're competing for, it is hardly surprising that some were apprehensive about us.

Some may want to reconsider now. :)

About the only one I could see flipping would be Pittman and even that is still a TBD. He was the one I was referring to back when this thread was created. Dodson was the other but I think that ship has sailed for a variety of reasons.

Kalis? Wormley? Strobel? McMullen? Dodson? Lewis? Stanford? Gone...and not coming back.

Will the new staff give them a ring to make sure? Probably. But I don't see any of them coming back OSU's way. They've built relationships with their future head coaches, position coaches and teammates.

In cases like OSU's when it seemed no punishment was off the table for the longest time, I think you have to cut the kids some slack. I cant remember another Ohio class that had to deal with this level of insanity.

That being said though, when they picked elsewhere they also ran the risk of Urban not finding them a fit in the same way that Tressel/Fickell did.

I dont envy their positions at all. Hopefully once the dead period ends they can contact coach and sort things out in their best interest. The only one that I'm pretty sure of is Pittman.

The only kid I would NOT take is KK. You don't commit to the good guys then change when things get tough to the bad guys.

The rest of the players committed to another program outright (with or without an offer). I'm OK with that. As far as I'm concerned they should honor their verbals to the respective schools (MSU, NEB, etc.)

Bottom line: You commit to scUM, keep your sorry ass up there. Either you are a Buckeye or your not.

One thing that is clear at this point is that we really, really need pass rushers and offensive tackles. Dodson, Pittman, and Kalis fit that bill. I'd love to see any of them in this class, however unilkely.

As I explained in my post, I wholeheartedly disagree with your point of view. No one is anything until they sign their LOI and 17 year old kids have the right to change their minds until then.

That's fine. I respect your position. However, since you wish to bring up the age issue.

What about the rest of the "17 year old kids" that have stuck with their VERBAL commitments and have stated they would remain Buckeyes regardless? Loyalty is something these kids have shown and as I stated I would hope kids like Pittman,Strobel and others honor their respective verbal commitments.

There are other kids that have not committed to anyone and they are fair game. Kids that honor their commitments show great character which is a quality I would want in my student-athletes.
