LSU (-3) vs. Wisconsin (Houston)

Why do Big Ten teams sign up to play games at a "neutral site" that isn't really neutral? If you want to play an SEC team, fine. Either make it a home and home- after all, this match up is a sell out in either Madison or Baton Rouge- or just go ahead at play in Baton Rouge and avoid the farce that Houston is a "neutral site." In fact, both teams are losing revenue - from concessions, from parking, from number of tickets available to stadium rent.

If I remember correctly the next year they will play in Lambeau.

A) Most sec teams will not schedule home and away series. Lsu is one of the exceptions.

B) It is much simpler to add a neutral site game than negotiate a home and away series.

C) While the local economy and ticket holders lose out, the school still gets a big pay day for these games. M is receiving 6 million for their upcoming Jerry world game against Florida. Part of that was to motivate the gators to do what they never do, leave the southeast before bowl season (and even that is exceedingly rare)

You want to play at a neutral field? Fine - play at a neutral field. Have LSU play Wisconsin in Denver. Have Texas play Washington in Los Angeles. Or Florida can play Penn State in Dallas. I understand that half of the tickets go to each fan base, so it COULD be neutral. But when Wisconsin finds it more difficult to sell tickets to the game than LSU does, because travel times are longer, LSU is going to have more fans there. How "neutral" is it, then?

Well, see, all the folks in College Station are going to look at that schedule and say, "Hot damn! We can (crawl out from under our rock and) drive up there to Houston and cheer for Wisconsin to beat those Cajun bastards. And all the Longhorn fans in Houston can buy tickets and go, "Let's go root us for some damn Yankees!" So the fact that Houston is right across the river from weezyana don't make a no never mind. They'll all be a yelling and a cheerin' on them Badgers and a chantin', "Big Ten, Big Ten, Big Ten!"

The game at Lambeau - the first time Lambeau will host a college game of any sort - will be overwhelmingly Wisconsin fans. When all is said and done these will basically be home games for the respective teams.

So why not play the games at Tiger Stadium, 92, 572, and Camp Randall, 80,321, instead of Reliant Stadium, 71,500 and Lambeau Field, 72,928? You lose 29 thousand seats, you lose parking revenue, you lose concessions revenue, you add travel expenses for both teams, you pay rent. Oh, and Bobby Jindel loses a bunch of tax revenue.

As jwinslow said above, it's probably easier to schedule faux-neutral site games than to schedule a home-and-home series, especially when we're talking about the SEC here. Personally, I wish the game would be at Camp Randall versus Lambeau, but it'll still be a really historic event and cool sight regardless.

I don't mind when you play the quasi-home / quasi-away series. I'm with cincibuck, in that it looks like you're leaving money on the table for someone else to grab. Plus, your own local economy (local stores, restaurants, hotels, etc.) isn't gaining from your home game. But if it that's what makes the series happen, and the teams are willing to do it, then good on 'ya. I just don't like the "let's play a 'neutral' game 200 miles from us, and 1,200 miles from our opponent" garbage. It's not really neutral.

Thanks, Bigwoof. I found this exchange too precious to ignore:

It’s way too early to bite on a betting line for Georgia-Clemson. Both teams still have four more months for key players to get arrested.
