For the first time in college football history, incoming freshman can sign their National Letter of Intent in late-December.
This year marks the first time that the NCAA has given college football prospects an opportunity to sign their National Letters of Intent during an early signing period. From Dec. 20-22, Ohio State (and the other 129 FBS programs) are expecting to add up to 80% of their incoming 2018 class, with the remaining few scholarship spots to be claimed on the traditional National Signing Day in early-February.
The Buckeyes are expecting about 17 LOIs to be faxed to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center during this early signing period. Players firm in their commitments aren’t waiting any longer to make their pledge official, and can now shift their focus toward their collegiate careers and leaving their recruitment in the past.
Urban Meyer and the coaching staff took to the recruiting trail immediately following the Big Ten Championship, using their conference title and Cotton Bowl bid as a last testament to the strength of the program. Despite falling short of a College Football Playoff bid, the Buckeyes finished with only two losses on the season and are looking toward another impressive haul in the NFL Draft.
Stay tuned for updates as the Buckeyes get BOOOOOM-ing during the early signing period, and lockdown some of the top talents from the 2018 recruiting class.
