I'm looking for a quality DVD player. I'd prefer under $100, but price is not really an issue. I figure $100 should get a pretty solid DVD player. I've honestly never been in the market for one. I've just used various computers and my parents' Bose (which is way out of my range, by the way).

So throw your suggestions at me! I do realize that this is not a very informative post, but like I said, I've not been in the market for DVD players and have limited time to actually go look. I do not need a HD DVD player.

Thanks in advance, and feel free to ask specific questions!

I don't believe you will have to pay more than $50 for a good DVD player.

Not sure (as this is in the Computer Home Theatre Forum) if you want a stand-alone player or a drive - either way the same price range applies.

Typical pricing stand alone - $40 - 50, such as
Magnavox with HDMI and upconversion - $37.88 - WalMart
If you don't like WalMart then Best Buy has similar units - Philips - $42

If it is a DVD Drive you need .
Sony 16x DVD - 48x CD - New Egg - $17.99

Looks like you can afford to add to the DVD library.

Ah yes, I forgot about the DVD Recorders. I definitely wouldn't mind having one of those. Not a necessity, however. I really just want to get a decent DVD player so I can stop using my Xbox 360.

I haven't heard much about Oppo. I'm checking out their site now and it looks like many of their DVD players have quite a bit of versatility. Does anyone have any bad experiences with them? The few reviews I've seen have been good.

Oh, and a stand-alone DVD player is what I need. sandgk, that Magnavox is looking pretty good. I'm obviously not going to make up my mind after two posts, but it looks like a potential candidate at this point. :tongue2:

I have their DV-970HD and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever.

It plays pretty much anything I throw in it (DivX, XVID, DVD/RWs, SACD, DVD-A, VCD etc) including some scratched discs that would skip in the Sony player I had prior to the Oppo.
