Coffman hasn't had this kind of concentration of football talent since 1994-5 when it was just Dublin High. I was told by a Dublin varsity coach (not from Coffman) that the Coffman coaches for basketball and football have started to recruit kids from the various middle schools in order to preempt the district's new policy which will disallow kids to transfer intra-district while in HS.

The Dublin school district is starting to feel like the NYC Catholic schools in terms of competing for talent. :wink2:

Gardiner - offers from Syracuse, West Virginia, Ball State, Miami (OH) and Cincinnati
Stoudt - offer from Gardner-Webb...and gaining momentum at camps

Maybe Mr. Fairchild could tell us a little bit about some of the other seniors and/or underclassmen.

There are so many solid players on this team. Those 5 get the publicity, but players like Chris O'Brien, Matt Ross, Scott Stucky, Kevin Hayes, Kevin Duroski, Ross Doan, Ben Semans , Alex Ottney, Keaton Sebastian have played a lot of football already and figure to be key seniors on this team.

Juniors Jarred Phillips and Voden will play a lot.

Coffman most likely will start 20 -21 seniors this fall and most of the key backups will be seniors also.

I work with a couple of people on the team, so I hear a lot about them. According to them, this team is going to come down to Stoudt, who has all the hype, but lacks varsity starting experience, as well as the defensive line. I think Davidson's championship last year really has these guys fired up as well, not only because Davidson is their arch rival, but because it made them believe that an OCC team could contend with the big guys in Cincy and Clevelandl.

We used to recruit somewhat in the 90's too. We lost Gary Berry to Kilbourne and then later to Desales. But there were several players that would just show up, whose parents would "get jobs in the district". Some stayed, some dissappeared.

Can you name anyone specifically? Alot of the guys I remember were long-time Dubling kids. And I didn't realize that GB almost came to Dublin - he was friends with alot of the Dublin guys around his year.

This IS NOT true, in fact the football program goes to the extent of checking the kids and making sure they do NOT get any Coffman information. If they do it is a mistake. This is talked about in an effort to not recruit.

Ya Garry lived in Sawmill near Nick Goings, he may have even gone to a Dublin Middle school for a bit. Roland Steele came from Kentucky in 8th grade. .. not that he was recruited. But there were a few kids that would be in summer football that came from city leauge, and then they would disappear. Bryan Deal would recuit Todd Holcomb and Joe O Shaungesy from Watterson. Things really picked up after I left.

Mr. F, I have no desire to argue with you, however this information came from a conversation with a Dublin varsity-level coach. Whether or not he/she was disgruntled with some sort of lack of success is beyond me - I'm just reporting what I heard.

IF coaches are going to the middles, that is EXACTLY what schools do on an official basis in NYC top-level Catholic schools.

Oh yeah, I remember all of that - I just couldn't remember if there were other good examples. I just remembered that alot of the players from the mid-90's (Barnhart, Nosker, Orsack, Simpson, Billins, Fitzpatrick, etc.) were all Dublin kids. Actually, J. Wilkins (OSU baseball 1999-2002(3)) and his brother were rumored to be big transfers when they came to Dublin...

I will not argue either. There are plenty of disgruntled coaches out there at all three schools due to kids wanting to open enroll. Coffman has the same complaints, depending on the sport. Most of it is the parents wanting a certain opportunity for the player.
