Duane Washington signs letter of intent with Ohio State

The talented Germany-born point guard is officially a Buckeye.
Ohio State’s point guard problem is well documented. The Buckeyes currently have only one true point guard on scholarship, Junior C.J. Jackson, and while the North Carolina product does have two more years of eligibility, two former walk-ons, Joey Lane and Andrew Dakich, both seniors, are the only bodies behind Jackson.
With that need in mind, new head coach Chris Holtmann got to work quickly in Columbus, identifying the need, and scouring the country for uncommitted and talented guards. After a few months of searching, Holtmann went to a familiar face, California product Duane Washington, whom he had already once offered at Butler.

The Germany-born, Grand Rapids raised guard received an offer on August 20th, took a visit to Columbus on September 15th, and committed just five days later, giving Holtmann his point guard for 2018. Washington was one of four commits in the span of five days, along with all of his fellow class members.

“He’s a capable passer, and can run an offense, though I don’t think he’s at his most comfortable facilitating. That’s where the intrigue lies. What he lacks in true point guard skills, he makes up for with a silky smooth, elite jump shot.
He’s a great shooter from deep and mid-range, both off the dribble or the pass, and can do some serious damage if given any kind of space. The best way to quantify a position for Washington is by calling him a combo guard with point guard capabilities if needed, and a dangerous jumper”
