He played on the line as a Freshman and Sophomore earning conference honors. It is rare in D1 to start a freshman on the line like that. This kid can play. He should make tapes of his Freshman and Sophomore year playing on the line "with his hand in the dirt". That would make some minds up.CleveBucks said:He shows nice speed and explosiveness in those clips. The question will be, can he show those same qualities lined up on the D-Line where you need to be able to get off blocks and go one-on-one with an offensive lineman.
Todd Denlinger's recruiting process has just sped up considerably.
In fact, with a verbal offer from The Ohio State University in his hip pocket, it may just have reached warped speed.
Wednesday, Denlinger — a junior at Troy High School — was verbally told by OSU assistant coaches that he had a scholarship offer to play football at Ohio State and that a written scholarship offer should be on its way.
"Coach (Luke) Fickell called me and told me he and Coach (Mark) Snyder were going to come talk to me and I would officially get the offer then," Denlinger said. "They said they were going to make it more formal."
While Denlinger hasn't made a decision yet, he now has offers from nearly every school he is interested in attending. With nearly all of the cards on the table, Denlinger may be close to showing his hand.
"Really, Iowa and Notre Dame are the only ones I wish I had that I don't — but they have both been in close contact with me," the 6-foot-3, 283-pound Denlinger said. "Ohio State is definitely a big one. Now that I have most of the ones I want, I can start taking some visits."
Ohio State is the latest in a long list of schools to offer Denlinger. Other schools that have offered Denlinger include (but are not limited to) Tennessee, West Virgina, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Standford and Vanderbilt.
Denlinger played middle linebacker for the Trojans last season, recording 125 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
Denlinger is set on making an early verbal commitment to the college of his choice before his senior season begins at Troy in August.
He had stated in the past he planned on deciding at least by July, but with the offer from Ohio State now out there, Denlinger is thinking about moving up that date.
"I had been thinking by the end of July, but now with this offer, that's probably going to move it up to at least by the end of June," Denlinger said.
Even when Denlinger makes a verbal commitment to a school, he can still consider his options until February, when he signs his national letter of intent. Only then will he be obligated to play football at one college or university.
Once he does make his decision, however, Denlinger said it will be final.
"I want to get this all over with," he said. "I want to concentrate in the Trojans and have a good senior season — that's still my main focus. I want to work out with them all summer. My goal is to help get Troy football back to where it was before."
He's also hoping that when he does announce his decision, he'll get a little shelter from the constant barrage of questions and phone calls he's had to endure during the entire process.
"Everybody I talk to, that's the first thing they ask me, 'Where are you going to go?' It's getting kind of frustrating, to be honest with you," Denlinger said. "Once it's out of the way, I hope people stop asking me about it quite so much."
In all likelihood, that day is coming sooner as opposed to later.
It's official.
Troy junior defensive lineman Todd Denlinger has received a written scholarship offer from the Ohio State football program. Denlinger received a verbal offer from the Buckeyes earlier in the week.
Ohio State assistant coach Luke Fickell — himself a former defensive tackle for the Buckeyes — presented Denlinger with the written offer Friday morning at Troy High School.
"It's nice to have it in writing," Denlinger said. "I didn't feel totally comfortable until I had it in writing. It's a big relief."
Now comes the hard part for the 6-foot-3, 280-pound Denlinger — actually picking a school. He's also received scholarship offers from Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Boston College, Cincinnati, Maryland, Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Vanderbilt.
He's received scholarship offer from nearly every school on his wish list, with the exception of Notre Dame and Iowa.
Denlinger said he'll likely make a verbal decision in the near future.
Once Denlinger makes that verbal commitment, however, he won't officially be obligated to a school until he signs a national letter of intent in February.
Once he makes his decision, however, it will be final, Denlinger said.
"I'm not going to be one of those people who changes his mind," he said. "And I'm not going to take any visits once I commit. I think that looks bad."
In fact, if Denlinger commits before colleges and universities begin running their summer camps, there's a good chance he won't participate in any of those.
"I'll probably just stay around here in Troy and work," Denlinger said. "That's fine. That's where my focus needs to be. I want to be able to help out the Trojans. That's my biggest goal right now."
Denlinger played middle linebacker for the Trojans last season, recording 125 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
Denlinger has played varsity for the Trojans since his freshman year in high school. He's played defensive end, tight end, fullback, defensive tackle and linebacker.
This season, he's expected to play center and defensive tackle for Troy.
Nearly every school is recruiting Denlinger as a defensive tackle.
