DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

I thought he bought a house in Upper Arlington?

He did. I don't care where he bought in Columbus or how much I have loved his portfolio of work...I just don't think that he has what it takes to coach the Buckeyes. The football that he understands is an entirely different game.

So, no, I don't think that Eric Clapton should be considered as head coach at Ohio State. Oh, wait....

Duke basketball coach Mike KJgufytcfytdf7idcski today won his 902nd baskbetball game as head coach. He made specific mention that he had won only 38 games in his first three years (just under 13 games a season), and he thanked the people in charge at the time who kept him there and for believing in him. It's a good thing for him that a lot of the BP members calling for Fickell's head weren't around Duke at the time, huh?

In fairness, Duke wasn't nearly as prestigious when Coach K took over as tOSU is now.

It saying so would be wrong.
Yep, JT inherited a ton of talent when he took over in 2001 and added to it with a loaded 2002 recruiting class.

OT - Has anybody seen how awful Will Muschamp is doing this year for the Gators? For a "star" hire he is 5-5 with his best win against the Vols. And he has Rainey, Demps and Brantley, it's not like Urban left a bare cupboard.
It's a little early to totally write him off, but he hasn't been very impressive. That's the risk you take in hiring a first time HC. But, I think they have a lot of issues beyond coaching. Brantley has never shown that he's even an average QB, and Rainey and Demps are midgets that don't really fit cholly's prefered schematical advantage.

Yeah, he may turn it around next year. But this is the risk you take when you bring in a big name hire. Remember when Glen Mason was interviewing for the tOSU job along with Tressel? A Big Ten veteran coach against a D-1AA coach? Man, I'm glad we went with the guy from the small school.

Tressel had 4 titles, Ohio ties, and experience overseeing an entire athletics program. He may not have been a national name, but his resume was exemplary.

Yeah, but look who his losses are to; Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, & South Carolina, all are very good (and ranked) teams.

That's true, but they were blown out in a few of those games, and one of those wins is a narrow one against a mediocre Vanderbilt team. The other wins are Fla Atlantic, UAB, a horrific Tennessee and am equally horrific Kentucky. Their offense has also, arguably, been worse than ours...or at least as bad. Given the prestige of their last 4-5 recruiting classes, that's a significant fall. Of course, bringing in cholly to run his offense with a bunch of guys recruited to play in the spread may not have been the most prudent of choices...

So we should be looking for a coach with a really bad W-L record as a criteria for success?

I am taking my cue from the folks who gave him the job. If they clearly saw in Fickell what they wanted he would be working under a 4 year contract this year - not as an interim.

This was an audition, and I am still waiting for the answer to the question "What has Fickell done that shows he has the right stuff?"

I have seen him out game-planned. I have seen defensive collapses. I have watched this team flatline in November. We didn't just lose to Purdue. They looked like the better team.

Please finish the sentence "But on the other hand ........." with something other than excuses.

And yeah, you can argue that I am throwing him under the bus. But that is why God made message boards. When I show up at the Shoe next Saturday I will scream my lungs out (I could not speak for 4 days after the Wisky game.)

(Oh, and not to be a spelling Nazi, but there are two 7s in Coach K's last name.)

Question: If Purdue doesn't block the extra point, do any of the last 4 pages of comments get made?

Just asking.

Why wouldn't they? They looked uninspired and bad. Again. If these questions weren't brought up I'd probably stop posting on this forum because it would be too full of super-homers.

One aspect of good coaching is your team getting better as the year goes on. The answer to this question is no.
We've grown used to exceptional play in November under JT, just one of the many things he spoiled us with for 10 years. This team is regressing, or at least not improving. That's never a good sign.
