Garrett Goebel will be a three year varsity starter for the Broncos and head coach Chris Andriano in 2007. Goebel as a junior in 2006 was named as an all conference and all area performer. Goebel is also a nationally ranked heavyweight wrestler.

Listing interest in Illinois (offer), Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Love those DT/heavyweight wrestlers...

From the Illinois site...Garrett is leaning towards football in college but is not ruling out wrestling. He is interested in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio St., Michigan St., Vanderbilt, Virginia, Notre Dame and Iowa.

Let me see if I can get this right...first time I have tried posting something from YouTube.

Hey, I did it!!! This is a video of Garrett wrestling against Ben Kuhar of St. Ed's.

Chicago Sun-Times

The setback fueled the Broncos' offseason workouts. Despite an arduous schedule, they've dominated their competition. They made a statement nationally at the prestigious Ironman, coming in fourth behind perennial national powers St. Edward (Ohio), Blair Academy (N.J.) and St. Paris Graham (Ohio). Benefiel and Goebel took first, Winel fourth and Grimes seventh.

Goebel, a left tackle and defensive end, has a high motor and is exceptionally quick. He's a major Division I recruit in two sports.

Kuhar is no cupcake and Goebel smashed him...very good wrestler. I'm pretty sure Garrett came out to my coaches camp a year or two ago. Good wrestlers usually equal great DT's.

By my boy Greg Powers...Indiana, Illinois, Vanderbilt and Ohio State have offered. He talks about his football style and how wrestling helps.

I think the teams recruiting this kid for offense are wasting their time...future stud at DT.

Film.

My take: Only focusing on the defensive clips - similar style and film to Lucas Nix, although a little better tackler and seems to use his hands a little better. Another kid with a great motor who can absord blockers or move down the line and penetrate gaps. Obviously wasn't 6-5 last year because he doesn't look like it on film, although I'm sure he has grown.

I think at times when he is inside you can see his tendancy to want to get up field which is what he used to when playing on the outside. The thing is with his wrestling background I think he will be able to man a gap very well in our defensive scheme why being able to get upfield on passing downs. Just to reiterate what Wad said his motor is very good. That one play where the WR caught the screen and he ran him down from behind showed that.

I really like this offer and hope that he becomes a part of this class. Him and Rowell would make a great tandem of DT to go along with a guy like Long or Jenkins who could play DT or Oline that would be amazing in terms of big bodies and go along way in stacking those positions for the future...

Has he mentioned any possibility of wanting to play football and wrestle at the next level?

I haven't heard that talked about yet...but it is VERY unlikely. You are talking about two completely different types of athletes at the college level. Keep in mind strength and conditioning programs at a place like OSU are very sport-specific. The regiments of a football player (who works out all year long just for football) and a wrestler are very different and I would think it would be nearly impossible to maximize your football potential in this day and age while taking 5-6 months off to train as a wrestler.

Definitely Passes The Look Test!

That's a very impressive video of his match against Kuhar. Kids that wrestle -- especially linemen -- have a much better understanding of leverage and using their hands. He's also VERY explosive. I like that. Garrett would be a great land for the Buckeyes!

GO BUCKS!!!
