DT Eddrick Houston (Official Thread)

Freaking love this. Says what's up y'all, it's Ohio State with no drama basically. His mom said LJ Sr and no swearing in practice was a big deal in choosing Ohio State, obviously more went into that decision but a great reminder why we have strict rules on language in the recruiting forum. Not going to get preachy, but these things can matter.

On another note, I had no idea he was a state champion wrestler (or even that he wrestled). I've said it a million times, but lineman that wrestled are so much more likely to succeed at football. Stats are just there. Makes me all that much more excited on this commitment, which was already really excited because I couldn't hush my butt about this watching the Reds game with my dad.

In summation, this is like Vonn Bell big when we got him from the south. These are the battles you have to win at key positions against your top opponents, and we did. Great job by the staff and dang I'm fired up.

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Eddrick!! So happy to have you on board!

I appreciate the little things with Eddrick. He didn't screw around with the announcement, he just went right into it and announced it. His Mom talked about LJ being a big factor and the fit of him for our team culture. He's a state champion wrestler and used to run the anchor leg in track. Eddrick feels like a no-nonsense kid who gets after it and that makes him a special talent to go along with his physical abilities

Exactly what I loved about this commitment. Non-nonsense is exactly how to sum him and his family up. I love the zero drama, local news station announcement. Extra love the wrestling and track background. I know JTT was ranked #1 overall by the sites, but I think Eddrick is a similar player/person and equivalent in talent at this stage imo.
Dude is a dog we sorely need
Most definitely. Since you have more knowledge at the position, I am curious to hear if you think Eddrick can slide down at DT in the Rushmen group, or maybe even grow into a DT at his size? I think we need him at DE and that is where the money is, but maybe he can slim down to about 260-265 when he starts playing if the end goal is DE? To harken back to the JTT reference above, he came in as a sort of oversized DE that wanted to remain a DE, and I think our staff did a great job getting his physical shape to the point where that worked really well.

- I definitely think he can slide inside, that would pretty much be stealing with his athleticism.
- I think 265 would be good for him weight wise, I think the difference between him and JTT is his explosion and short area quickness. He has some juice
- Physically, I think he is what a typical SEC end looks like.
