I looked through the 64 man bracket (40 wrestlers in it) and bolded the following ranked wrestler competing in the tournament. Dex and Deinhardt are on the same side of the bracket and will meet each other next round if they both win. While Fernandez and Guhn are on the other side of the bracket.

On a new page now so i'll pump the brackets/results link. http://www.nhsca.com/wrestling/senior_nationals/2006_NHSCA_Seniors.pdf

Edit: This link redirects you to live results that come in much quicker then the other link. Although the other link is better to look at when rounds are complete. http://www.nhsca.com/wrestling/senior_nationals/NHSCASeniorLiveAgate.htm

Edit 2: Guhn from Ohio, the second highest ranked person competing in the bracket is forfeiting the rest of his matches.

As expected Dex and Bryant Deinhardt will be meeting in the quarterfinals. This has potential to be a good match. Dex has still yet to show signs of being human this season.

Dexter moves on to the Semi's. If he wins I think he'll have a real tough match in the finals, he might even give up 2 points :tongue2:.

If Dex is even half as good at football as wrestling..wow.

Thanks for the links 141. Dexter's opponent in the semi's (Harris, Idaho) is not on your list of ranked wrestlers. But he's pinned everyone he's faced so far. Could be a good match.

Lance Palmer, future Buckeye from St Edwards, is also in the semi's at 140lbs.

And, a kid from our local high school here in Boone, NC won the Junior National Title at 130lbs.

Dex had the closest match of his season. Dexter verse another very tough opponent for the finals should be exciting.

Everyone can listen to Dexters final match for first place. Winning this tournment is a very big deal; To help show how big winning the tournment is here are the qualificatiosn to be allowed to wrestle in it....
Must have senior eligibility in high school and a public high school state champion or runner-up or national prep school champion or runner-up during your high school career.
Here is a link to listen to a play by play of the finals matches.... Starts at 5:30 but he is last, so you'd be pretty safe if you turn it on at about 6.

Congrats to National Champion Dexter Larimore. Thanks to 141, I listened in on the finals match. Dexter was attacking the whole match. Like Tommy Rowlands, he shoots singles and doubles like a lightweight. Tough match in the finals, but Dexter came through.

? Is it over?

Details??
Sadly I fell asleep right before hand :(. (Celebrated too hard my NCAA bracket office pool win :))

The final score was 3-2 however, so it sounds as if Dexter took hm down and the other kid got an escape to make it 2-1. Then both period kids picked down and got an escape with no takedowns the whole 2nd and 3rd period match. That's a fairly common heavyweight type match. I'm guessing 100% though so if anyone can give more detail would be great

Merrillville senior heavyweight Dexter Larimore beat Oklahoma's Nathan Fernandez 3-2 on Sunday at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, earning a national championship. And he only had one thought after the win.
"There's only one kid at 275 (pounds) who finished his season undefeated," said Larimore, who finished his remarkable prep career with the win. Playing football at Ohio State will cause him to hang up his singlet now.

Larimore also beat Wisconsin's William McCormick (14-0), pinned Oklahoma's Wes Grant and New York's Bryant Deinhardt, and beat Idaho's Landon Harris 8-5 in the semifinal of the National High School Coaches Association's National High School Seniors Wrestling Championship. Fernandez was a three-time state champ while Harris was a two-time state champ.

"I felt good," Larimore. "I basically wrestled like I have all year."

He credited the win to Pirates coach David Maldonado, who won a national title while at E.C. Central.

"I did it all for him," Larimore said.

Merrillville's Javier Salas finished 0-2 at 119, while Hobart's Raphael Montez was 1-2 at 103.

Mario Morgan from Mt. Carmel was 6-1 at 125, his only loss in the semifinals. Morgan won 4-2 in overtime to capture a consolation finals win over Todd Schavrien of Poway, Calif.

Larimore finished his career at 167-15, and his season record is 47-0.

"It was a great experience for me," Larimore said. "It's one of the best feelings ever."

Listening to the match on the radio you could hear the big fellas hitting the mat every time one of them would shoot. Larimore evidently had a nice throw early which got the crowd oohing and aahing as well as giving him the two point lead for the takedown. He also got a nasty bloody nose early in the match as they were really hand fighting and bumping heads. Dex shot the legs and Fernandez caught him with a hard forearm. Dex finished with a lot of packing in his nose and numerous injury timeouts. The announcers seemed pretty astonished he could go as hard as he did with his nose in that condition so it must have been pretty bad.
