Dr. Jon Woods dots the "i" and other observations from Saturday

I have not had a chance to read anyone else's thoughts on Saturday's game, but here was what I found:

1) The new parking areas opened up on the western side of campus on the other side of the walking bridge definitely helped. They aren't terribly far away, the atmosphere was good, porta-johns were available, and it was a good place to unload the West Campus buses as well. It's the first good thing I've said about parking since I was a student, so I wanted to be fair and say something good when I saw something good.

2) Lots of Penn State fans there, more than I was expecting. All I saw were treated just fine and were having a good time. Nothing hostile from either side, and in fact I read several letters and comments from fans and coaches that said everyone was treated very well.

3) During the game, I've seen a lot of press praising the crowd, but I thought it was actually quite a bit quieter than I was used to. The reception for the seniors was good, and there were times it was loud, and during the goal line stand (my side of the field) it was what you would expect. But there were times you could hear a pin drop when Penn State had the ball, which was a bit different than what I was used to.

4) Penn State fans were boisterous in the stadium but the ones in our area were not vulgar, nor were the Ohio State fans in return. I heard several of our people saying "Why aren't we treated anywhere near like this when we go there" including the guy next to me, who talked about it for a couple of minutes.

5) All in all, I was extremely proud of our Buckeye fans, and was very proud of being a Buckeye despite the game's outcome. Clearly this is a down year, but the fairweathers are long gone, and the people left are true Buckeyes, and showed it on Saturday.

6) As for the game, meh. All I want to say at this point is on to Michigan, and this is truly the definition of a one game season.

7) The highlight of the day was Dr. Woods dotting the i, seen below.

The highlight of the game was definitely seeing Dr Woods dot the "i". He means as much to the University and football as any coach or player.

I was sitting on the other end of the field from you and we had the same reception towards Penn St fans. There were quite a few scattered around me, but no one was hostile towards them and like-wise. Most were having conversations with OSU fans around them.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but when Penn St ran off the field after pre-game warmups, the majority of the South stands stood and clapped for the team as they went into the locker room, students included. Some did this when Penn St ran onto the field as well, but the students obviously changed their views to "boos" by then. Either way, i thought it was a very nice gesture towards the Penn St "family" saying that we support the team through their tough time.

Dr Woods is what being a "Buckeye" is all about.

The "man" behind TBDBITL could have succumbed 6 years ago after the horrrible murder of his daughter, Catherine. But, somehow, and I don't even know how he did it, this great man found the courage and fortitude to continue to bring to all Buckeye fans, lovers, and supporters the incomparable band performances that we all take for granted, week after week, and year after year.

To Dr. Woods:

Sir, its been a pleasure. We as Buckeye fans were all touched by the fact that you were honored by "dotting the i"

Thanks for all you have done to keep "TBDBITL" exactly what it is.

Peace
