I planted some in August. I was hoping to have pumpkins by the end of October. Thus far, I have only blooms. Next year I will try planting them in July.

Dude, August? July?

If you were a farmer, you'd starve.

If you're planting seeds, typically shoot for a week or two before the average last frost. That's early May where I live. If you're putting plants in (seedlings started in a greenhouse or in your house on a window sill), wait until after the average last frost date.

We got around a dozen pie pumpkins this year.

We found out how to grow them by accident and have not bought them for 5 years now.

just take the pumpkins you have for this year and after halloween smash them where you want to grow some. Next year, pumpkins. We accidently did this in the beds next to our patio and they have been growning in every year since. Feed them a little Miracle Gro in the summer and they will get huge.

I am not a farmer, but the pumpkin farmers here plant in July and early August. We have a long growing season here. I will try your advice next year, though.
