Last Thurs: All-day golf tournament for a co-worker's going away.
Last Fri: "Family Day" as decreed by our 4-star general
Last Sat: Normal weekend day off
Yesterday: Normal weekend day off
Today: President's Day

The more things change, the more they stay the same ...

20 years ago, I'd wake up with the day off from school, eat grilled cheese sandwiches, watch cartoons, and play with GI Joes and Transformers.

Since I took today off to stay home with my five year old son, I woke up, ate grilled cheese sandwiches, watched cartoons, and played with GI Joes and Transformers.

I was astounded to find out that our University did not have Presidents Day off. MLK must be more important than our presidents and our veterans, as school is off for his birthday. I don't begrudge him that, but I do think it says something about who and what our institutes of higher learning value.

I remember when we got the 12th and the 21st off and Valentines Day in between. Also recall being stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA and discovering that Virginia did not observe Lincoln's Birthday. They did however observe Robert E. Lee's Birthday.

I have a friend who moved to Atlanta. She was surprised that they didn't get MLK day off work. She said something to a co-worker, native from Atlanta, and she responded with, "Why would we get MLK day off? We don't even get Robert E Lee Day off." I was surprised that anyone would feel that a man who is partially responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans should get a holiday named for him.

I answered the poll witha "day off" response... I then found it funny that I was responding as I sat in my office...

No home office... I went in for a couple of hours to clear paperwork/emails... I was out of the office on Thurs. and Fri., and before last week was out for a week and a half. I just now caught up with all the paperwork (at least the important paperwork:wink2: )...
