I'll be in Maine for 6 weeks on the coast this summer doing some research on mackerel and wanted to extended my visit to the Northeast into August so that I can get a in some back country hiking and camping.

Any suggestions on spots to go?

I was a Boy Scout (Eagle Scout) and as a kid I camped all the time. I loved it. Now, however, it doesn't interest me in the least. I can afford to sleep on a comfy mattress with a solid roof over my head, so that's what I'm going to do.

I've done alot of primitive camping and some no so primitive camping. Last year I took both my sons to a couple of bluegrass festivals. Tent camping. It was GREAT! They loved it! My sons and I have also done the out in the back yard type of camping, to introduce them to it, in a good sort of way. It was a success. I am not opposed to a 5th wheel camper either. I have plans to buy a good used one in the next 5 years or so. That way I can accommodate my wife and little girl. When I was younger age, I caught my own fish, fillet them and cooked them. No problemo! I grew up out in the country and hunted and fished on a regular basis. I deer hunt, and rabbit hunt and squirrel hunt. So, primitive isn't a concern. I really enjoy camping. It is a great family activity. No t.v., no puter, no gameboy etc. etc. If you can cook on a grill, and sleep in a sleeping bag, you can pretty much handle it. Well, that is, IF your not afraid of outdoor noises, and don't need to fix your hair, or nails, or do your face in the morning.:tongue2:

I've camped in Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Havasu. Now that I'm married, I think those days are over. She needs a bathroom/shower facility within walking distance.

Eh, I have a feeling once I'm 40, I'll feel the same anyway.

Now that I think of it, about 4 years ago on vacation in Montana we did "camp" I guess. We stayed in a RV the whole trip. I never really thought of RV-ing it as camping. But I guess it is.

We camped at Yellowstone two nights of that vacation.
