I kinda think if there was no life on Mars before, there is now, since we've landed shit there. That is assuming, of course, that life on earth (that survives in extreme conditions) can make the journey (and entry in to Martian atmosphere) without dying.. suspended animation, perhaps. I don't care how sterile they try and be, life finds a way... and of course, they don't shoot off spaceships from inside a sterile room anyway.
