Do college athletes get a stipend?

I've always thought they recieved no money outside of scholarship money, i've heard from the teacher of sports for spectators that they do recieve a stipend... but she also says alot of things that are completly and totally wrong.

Yes, IIRC somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 a month.

depending on the location of the school it varies.

I was under the impression that it depends on whether or not the kid lives on campus or not. If they're responsible for finding their own food, they generally get some money and a meal plan. If they live on campus (dorms), they get a meal plan (debit card thingy) only.

They also get some cash when they travel to team functions. When I was in school, I believe it was $40 per day or something like that.

As AJHawkfan pointed out, it's not the same at all schools and only those who aren't provided with on-campus housing and meals get the full stipend.
