DL Brandon Maupin (Official Thread)

Looks like some scholorships should be opening up. The person i'm curious about is Adam Pettry (sp?) Skeete is gone and Pettry greyshirted even, seems as if he should get the scholorship.

OSU sports information director Steve Snapp said sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Maupin will not play this fall.

Maupin did not travel to the Alamo Bowl in December because of academic issues, Tressel said then. He did not participate in the team’s winter conditioning and missed at least part of spring practice.

Also in December, it was revealed that Maupin owed the city of Columbus $1,943 for 36 unpaid traffic tickets.

Snapp would not elaborate on the reasons for Maupin’s absence other than to say "he failed to meet team responsibilities."

Maupin, of West Chester, Ohio, was a redshirt in 2003 and played in four games last season with no tackles.

All told, four Buckeyes players now have been lost for 2005 since May. Cornerback E.J. Underwood is transferring to Campbellsville (Ky.), and incoming freshman Freddie Lenix is delaying his enrollment until winter quarter because he was not admitted for the fall.

Perhaps, I changed the title of the thread. Aside from Robert Smith (which wasn't the same story) has any Buckeye player been suspended for an entire season and then came back to play the next year?

It's not a big deal by any means, the title of the thread as it was just seemed a little misleading. Hopefully Brandon gets it done in classroom and takes care of his parking tickets so he can get back on the field.

That's sad, and I do hope Brandon gets it turned around. I am surprised by this as West Chester,OH is home to one of the better school districts in the state. If he was getting his grade minima there I would hope it would translate with ease to college.

Guess it shows just how big a leap it is for some kids to go from homework at home to school work on a campus in another city.

Lane football signs from Ohio State player

Coming off a breakthrough 8-3 season, NCAA Division II Lane College announced signing a former Ohio State player among its 14 signees Wednesday morning.
At Ohio State in 2003 and '04, Brandon Maupin comes to Lane with no details available about the past two seasons.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, Maupin was a defensive tackle recruit by the Buckeyes in 2003. He redshirted his first season for coach Jim Tressell and did not play a down the second.

Steve Snapp, Associate AD for Communications at Ohio State, said he did not know the reason why Maupin ? a native of Cincinnati ? left the program.
