Watson, Crick & A Twist
OK - I am following a couple of suggestions (belatedly, thanks methomps) due to the original "Looking Forward" thread getting mish-mashed with half team elections / half suggestions for improvement.
For the moment the original thread I started is closed.
This thread will be the space in which we can discuss how to make the BP Mock Draft a better time for the Mock Draft organizers, participants AND viewers.
PLEASE DO NOT POST DRAFT TEAM SELECTIONS PREFERENCES TO THIS THREAD - A SPACE FOR THAT IS GOING TO BE PROVIDED!!
And can be found here
Here are some snippets from the original thread, along with responses pro and con to the same.
Lastly there is this excellent suggestion that was someone whispered in my ear ...
The Thread for stating your wish on teams will be opened shortly
Bring on the ideas, discuss the above - and post your team preferences in the team preferences in the team thread.
OK - One last thing - this thread and the new team preferences thread will likely need some kind of formal moderation - particuarly this one - moving posts with selections and things like that.
I'll leave it to our crack team of Professional Forum moderators
Hubbard, AmeriBuck007, JCOSU86, osugrad21, BuckNutty, Oh8ch, CleveBucks, FKAGobucks877, sears3820, BB73, ScarletInMyVeins
to select who gets that responsibility.
Thanks for your patience, normal posting will be resumed as soon as possible.

Make a short list of selections for your drafting position (e.g. 3rd pick 1st round). Say 3 players for that pick point. That way if your pick goes your backup pick is loaded and ready to rumble. PM that list to Commish and his back-up.
(If we were to use that short-list method then you could also set a time limit for all picks in that round to be PM'd in - The commish then feeds them out and wrangles any issues with all 3 candidates gone from the pick list as the round progresses).

methomps said:I think a clock would be good. There are several different ways it can be run, and I'm sure someone will have an epiphany. Delays in picks seemed to be the biggest frustration last year.
sandgk said:One more notionb - that's a bargain notion - prompted in part by feeling bad about all this early pre-emptive team adoption. There are more fans of each and every team in the NFL on here than there are teams in the NFL. What about forming a group for each team? It'd take a little organization, but I think we could get that done "off-board" in PMs. Then a designated rep of the group submits the pick list.
osubartender23 said:I also think its not such a bad idea to have "group ownership" for the draft if we can get enough people wanting the same teams.

One thing that I could suggest that might just be too much of a pain in the ass to do is this. Have someone who is the designated "Paul Tagliabue" for the pick that is on the clock, send a text message or email to the person who is supposed to be making the pick. It might be a little tedious to do but instead of having people gripe, and pick out of order, give a 30 minute time frame on a specific day for the pick to be made and have the designated commish available during that time to receive the pick via email, instant message or posted on this forum. I know sounds like a huge pain in the ass but it might be a way to make it a bit more organized for those people who dont have access to a computer all day.
Mothra said:What if there was a "sign up" for the pro team that you would like to represent in the draft. Any member could put their name in for a random drawing that would be held at a specified date to determine the team "manger". That way it wouldn't just be first come first serve. Just my two cents.
methomps said:'m with Mothra on the idea of having a fair selection process for the teams where multiple people would be interested. I think we should set aside the discussion on who takes what team until later. Some people who aren't around may be interested as we get closer to the draft. Others who are interested now may lose interest or may be unable to participate.
So I suggest we focus more on ways to improve the draft process. There were a lot of problems and delays last year, and I'm sure it drove BN27 crazy at times.
Belatedly - you are welcome jwins :) Like I said to methomps and in thread - I jumped right in head-first myself.jwinslow said:is there any sort of existing web-based system out there? Probably not, but it might be worth looking into (like something on espn, etc).
sorry for the hijack sandgk.
JonathanXC said:Maybe we should have some sort of draft order as far as who gets to pick what teams though...and I also think those that participated last year should have first dibs on being a part of it again this year.
As far as speed of the draft, personally I didn't mind the wait. It was kind of fun...anticipation. Maybe we should just start earlier.
Brutus1 said:Group ownership is not a bad idea, as lond as someone is the 'GM' and the others are assistants.
Make a sticky with every team and people can join and the list would be constantly updated.
AND
...... You could also have a list of attenders that would pick for any team. That list would move from top to bottom to cover any teams without a GM. Every time you came to a team without a GM, the top of the list would take them for that pick only. The next open team would go to the second person on the list and so on. After you get to the botom of the list, you'd go right back to the first person on the list and they would pick for the next available team.
BuckeyeNation27 AKA Paulie T said:The first mock draft I ever did, there was a set time limit. If you went over that, everybody voted for who you should get.....with the person who gained 3 votes fist being the draft selection.
I thought it was a good idea at the time. It has it's ups and downs. Nobody is going to vote for somebody that they want, and as soon as 1 person gets voted then everybody else will just vote for that person to move it along. But it does keep the draft going.
Lastly there is this excellent suggestion that was someone whispered in my ear ...
Start a thread where people can nominate themselves for teams (with the understanding that it is NOT first-come, first-serve)
