You're all fascinating people, you really are.
I never knew many OSU fans growing up (obviously), so it has been interesting to get to know you and your mentality. It's completely foreign to me, and as much as I try to understand it, it's really very harsh and unwelcoming. Thankfully, the people I have met here on campus have been, while not as knowledgeable, quite a bit nicer. They seem to like the idea of "turning" someone from the other side, while here it seems to be pretty much "insult the guy because of where he used to go."
Several times since I have been here, I have found myself reading some of the things that people have said, and thought to myself "that was way over the line...I don't know that I want to be associated with people who would treat someone they didn't know like that" and found it affecting my view of OSU. That's not a good feeling. I am here for six years. And honestly, I love everything about this place, so I don't want to feel like that.
The bottom line is that I just simply don't fit in. Part of it is that I lack that testosterone-driven assholish streak, where I take out my failures on other people and live my unseen glories vicariously through a football team. And part of it is that I grew on the weak side of the rivalry, where I didn't learn to hate the other side so much, and thus I can't comprehend why every fiber of your being is devoted to hating a college.
Someone here once told me that I would never be a "true Buckeye." He went on to describe a "true Buckeye" as...well...basically what I laid out in the paragraph above.
Well, to that I will say that I agree. I am not a "true Buckeye" in that sense of the term. But you know what? That's a good thing. There are probably 100 of you in the world, and you all post here. It's good that you found your niche and you have your forum, but I don't fit in here and I never will. You treat me with undue venom, you attack me for things you ignore in others, and the simple fact of the matter is that you do it because of where I went to undergrad.
Good luck, and don't take any shit from arrogant ass Wolverine fans. Nothing is more pathetic than someone who takes the arrogant tone of their students without having that sheepskin.
And if anyone ever wants to go plant a buckeye tree in the Diag at UM, let me know...
