Ask a Native American woman how she feels about the word "squaw." It's certainly not a term of endearment. Back in 2003, the Arizona governor had the name of Squaw Peak (in Phoenix) changed to Piestewa Mountain (after the first woman killed in Iraq). Here's an interesting look on the name change and the term "squaw."
