Heading down Thursday early evening. Staying at hotel right by Love Field. Planning on just going from there to "uptown"?!? ….heard that was the spot to go to with tons of bars, women...etc.... Then staying in Fort Worth on Friday and Saturday (downtown)..... heard sundance square?!? and west 7th or something and stockyards are the places to go.....have heard nothing about bars in the TCU campus area which is odd but oh well if true...

We usually don't worry about fancy eats.....we do liquid diets for most of the three days and sub in bar food when needed..... any tips on best bars....outdoor bars/patios/rooftop bars..... nothing too fancy.... won't be getting dressed up or going "clubbing"...hah. Plus it's going to be 90 with humidity..... shorts all day everyday for this guy. wouldn't mind checking out some honkytonk line dancing mud stompers and ten gallon hat joint...just for the fun of it.....will be completely out dress coded and clearly a tourist...but if they don't care...we don't care.

(i'd also like to add GO NAVY) please don't send us to a gay bar.....

Uptown has some good spots. My go to spot is the Katy Trail Ice House. Another popular spot, the McKinney Avenue Tavern, has closed (but may have reopened). Other popular bars are the Nodding Donkey.

In Fort Worth, Reata downtown (near Sundance) has a rooftop bar. If the weather is nice, Woodshed Smokehouse has a solid outdoor atmosphere (but no air conditioning, so know that going in). Woodshed is owned by Fort Worth's Foodnetwork celebrity chef, so the food is kind of trendy BBQ (i.e. he serves rabbit/rattlesnake sausage). Joe T Garcia's has a huge patio (not really any TVs, if you are hoping to catch a game), but do not be surprised if there is a line to get in (although you can drink margaritas in line. But be warned: as Gaylord Focker would say, the Joe T's margs are usually strong...to quite strong. Careful driving if you have more than 2). If you get to Joe T's and the line is too long, Dos Molinas and El Asadero are near by hole in the walls. For Honky Tonk's, Billy Bob's is world famous. https://billybobstexas.com/ Looks like David Lee Murphy is playing there Friday and Tracy Lawrence on Saturday.

As for TCU, the bar scene's not super hopping right by campus. I think most students make their way over the W 7th area now (although I am almost 40, so I may have bad intel). The W. 7th area is about a mile W of downtown and about 2 miles N of TCU. Probably a dozen or more bars, with upscale and lower end dining options. Two great burger spots there with Freds (a FW institution featured on Diners Driveins and Dive) and Rodeo Goat (newer with lost of specialty burgers, try the Chaca Oaxaca and thank me later). Several good spots to set up shop and watch early games if you want. The Reservoir and Bar Louie have a lot of TVs (Bar Louie also has a rooftop bar). Chimy's is a taqueria started out of Lubbock Texas, and is a popular place for Texas Tech grads to watch their games.

Hope all of this helps.

Also, Chuy's is a solid spot (with free queso during happy hour). It is a chain started in Houston and they have spots in Dallas, FW, and Arlington. Pro tip: Order the Chuy's Brew (but specify you want a full size Dos XX or Corona (it comes with an 8 oz bottle)).

Yikes, man. No offense, but if I'm traveling from Ohio to Texas, i'd prefer real Texas BBQ or Mexican food to a restaurant that I've been to (hell, there's one at Easton in Columbus) and would call a Mexican-food version of Applebee's.

Disappointed in this crew. You should be hitting up the Horned Frog Visitor for the best spots for Mexican and Margs.

For Texas BBQ, Lockharts and Pecan Lodge get great reviews in Dallas. http://www.cattleackbbq.com/ Cattleack seems to be the new king of Dallas BBQ per the recent awards, but I have never been there.

Angelos is a Fort Worth staple. Railhead in Fort Worth is consistently good as well. I have already mentioned Heim in FW which is "craft BBQ" but is ridiculously good. You have the option to get your brisket normal or fatty. In the FW stockyards, Coopers is great, with a ton of options, but can be expensive. Risky's is consistently good and has a patio where the kids can see the 11:30 cattle drive.
