Tigers, Peralta reach agreement on new deal

DETROIT -- The Tigers have agreed to terms with shortstop Jhonny Peralta on a two-year contract, according to a source with knowledge of the agreement. The deal is expected to be announced in the next couple of days, and sews up Detroit's shortstop opening for the foreseeable future. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes first reported the two sides were finishing up the final details this weekend. The deal is worth $11.25 million, and includes a third-year club option for a buyout.

Tigers needed Victor Martinez's bat -- and for $50M, it's theirs

Detroit— He'll catch some, occasionally start at first base. But that's not why the Tigers pursued Victor Martinez as a free agent.
They wanted his bat. And it appears they now have his bat.

Making no secret of their need and desire to sign a middle-of-the-lineup hitter, the Tigers reportedly have come to terms with Martinez on a four-year, $50 million contract.
Ignacio Serrano of El Nacional in Venezuela broke the story Tuesday morning. According to the report, Martinez turned down a four-year $50 million offer from the Orioles and a three-year, $48 million offer from the White Sox.

Cabrera arrested, charged with DUI in Florida

Miguel Cabrera was one of baseball's better comeback stories in 2010 in his battle back from alcohol and personal issues, but an apparent decision he made on Wednesday night revealed that he may still be battling demons. The Tigers slugger was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after a traffic stop in Fort Pierce, Fla.

The Tigers have not commented on or confirmed the situation.

According to an arrest report published by the Treasure Coast Newspapers, a St. Lucie County police deputy pulled over Cabrera around 11 p.m. ET Wednesday upon spotting smoke coming out of the engine of the car he was driving. Cabrera reportedly smelled of alcohol, and his speech was slurred. The sheriff's office reported that he took a drink from a bottle of scotch he had in the car.

Sounds like Cabby will get off. Might take a while. I mean, he wasnt driving. going to be hard to prove a Driving UI when you are standing on the side of the road. Was he driving, prolly. But prolly isnt reasonable doubt. Now the chuggin a 5th and resisting arrest on the other hand.....
