Detroit Tigers 2006 season thread...

Apparently D'mitri Young wasn't grounding into enough DP's for you, so you went out and got Sean Casey.

DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers acquired first baseman Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Brian Rogers.
Casey, a career .304 hitter, gives the AL Central-leading Tigers the left-handed-hitting presence they have lacked as they head toward a playoff berth.
To make room for Casey, Detroit optioned the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo. Shelton is hitting .277 with 16 home runs and 45 RBI.
The 32-year-old Casey is a three-time NL All-Star selection and was hitting .296 with three home runs and 29 RBIs in 59 games this season.
Casey, who also has played for Cincinnati and Cleveland, is considered an above-average fielder. He has not committed an error in 491 total chances at first base this season and has posted a .995 fielding percentage at first base during his career.
Rogers was 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA in 37 appearances at Double-A Erie this season.

Tough year for Casey. Traded from the Reds. Health issues. Traded from his hometown team. At least the Tigers are headed to the playoffs. Best of luck to Sean.

Was gonna say has to have been a bitter sweet year for Casey overall...leave the reds...where he seemed to really love the town...but got to go home....and now he is leaving home...but going into a playoff race.

that moves shelton to AAA....who would've thought.
Ever since April has been over Shelton has been painful to watch. Looks like he has no concept of where the ball is. He needs to go to AAA to get his swing back. I have been cursing him everytime he comes up to bat lately. But to your point about Shelton getting demoted to AAA, yeah had you said that in April you would have looked foolish....

nope. You guys want to talk about our "young arms" that are starting but in reality the only kid that fits that bill is Verlander. When Maroth gets back they will go with a six man rotation and take the strain off of all the starters. The guy I'm most worried about in the 2nd half is Kenny Rogers, he has been bad (like usual) since the All-Star break. I'm not saying the AL central race is over, but if you are waiting or us to fall apart you can forget about that. Chicago will have to play really well to over take Detroit.

most we've lost all year is 4 in a row. Not sure why we would lose 8 or 10 in a row all the sudden. This is our toughest month schedule-wise but to think we will implode is just silly. And as long as Buehrle pitches I know you guys will lose at least once every 5 days. WTF happened to that guy?

Buehrle pitched on Tuesday and had the W until thornton gave up 2 runs. The sox still ended up winning.

Detroit plays the Sox 7 times this month. You think this is over? You are nuts.

Right. No team has ever gone into a slump. Ever. I know the White Sox sure didn't the series right before the All Star break. Hell, Detroit won yesterday...I see no reason why they'll ever lose again.

You're a bright one.
