Denver Broncos (Official Thread)

The Broncos ownership situation has been in flux since 2014, when previous owner Pat Bowlen surrendered control of the team to a trust that would either sell the team or pass it along to one or more of his seven children. Bowlen passed away in June 2019.

A potential sale of the team was stalled until July, when a judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by two of Bowlen’s daughters, Amie Bowlen Klemmer and Beth Bowlen Wallace, who claimed that the trustees had unduly influenced their father.
  • While the team is not currently for sale, Front Office Sports reported in September that internal differences in the family could lead to an ownership transition.
  • The price for the Broncos is predicted to be around $4 billion.
  • Bezos had previously looked into purchasing 40% of the Washington Football Team and is reportedly still interested in NFL ownership.

Judge's ruling that ex-owner Edgar Kaiser Jr.'s heirs can't buy back portion of Denver Broncos clears way for sale of franchise

A Denver judge ruled Tuesday the heirs of former Broncos owner Edgar Kaiser Jr. cannot buy back any portion of the franchise as part of a right of first refusal agreement, clearing the way for a potential sale of the team.

A holdings group, representing Kaiser's estate, had petitioned the court that it had right of refusal for any sale of the franchise dating back to when Kaiser sold the team to Pat Bowlen in 1984. Kaiser died in 2012 and Bowlen died in 2019.

Denver District judge Shelley L. Gilman ruled Kaiser's heirs had no claim and the right of first refusal included in the 1984 sales agreement between Kaiser and Bowlen was "no longer valid or enforceable in any respect.''

The Broncos are currently owned by the Pat Bowlen Trust, put into place by Bowlen before he stepped away from the team's day-to-day operations in 2014. Bowlen died in 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Broncos CEO Joe Ellis, one of three trustees overseeing the operations of the team, has said if Bowlen's children cannot agree on a majority owner the team would likely be sold. That agreement between the siblings is not expected -- a lawsuit between them was poised to go to trial before it was dismissed last July -- and the team is expected to formally go up for sale in the coming months.

NFL's Denver Broncos for sale; price will likely set record for any North American sports franchise

The Denver Broncos are officially up for sale and will likely have the biggest price tag in North American sports history.

The sale was announced Tuesday by the Pat Bowlen Trust, which has operated the team since Bowlen stepped away from day-to-day operations of the team in 2014 due to the early onset of Alzheimer's disease. The team is valued at just under $4 billion.

Joseph Tsai paid a total of $2.35 billion -- $1 billion for a 49% stake in 2017 and the additional $1.35 billion for the other 51% in 2019 -- for the Brooklyn Nets, the highest price paid for a North American sports franchise.

The last NFL franchise to be sold was the Carolina Panthers, who were purchased in 2018 by David Tepper for $2.275 billion.

In a statement, Broncos CEO Joe Ellis said: "The Pat Bowlen Trust announced today the beginning of a sale process for the Denver Broncos. We have retained Steve Greenberg of Allen & Company as our financial advisor and Joe Leccese of Proskauer Rose LLP as our legal advisor for this transition of ownership.

"Selling an NFL team is a complex process involving numerous parties and league approval procedures. Nonetheless, the trustees hope to have the sale completed by the start of the 2022 NFL season.

Now the couple and their three children have welcomed a new member of the family, a puppy. This very good girl is named "Bronco.

F1 star Lewis Hamilton joins new Denver Broncos ownership group

With the final step of the purchase of the Denver Broncos by a group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton set for Aug. 9, the Walton-Penner group has added another high-profile investor to its ranks.

Walton announced Tuesday morning that seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton will now have an ownership stake. Hamilton joins former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who joined the group as an investor last month.

"We're delighted to welcome seven-time Formula One World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group,'' Rob Walton said in a statement. "He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team.''

Hamilton expressed his excitement Tuesday on Twitter about joining the Broncos' ownership group.

Not a great head coaching debut for Nathaniel Hackett last night.

I can't really comprehend thinking a historic field goal would be a better option than getting five yards.

Longest FG ever made in that stadium was 57 yards. McManus is 1 for 5 on 60+ yard kicks he's attempted, and kickers in the modern era are 2 for 41 in 60+ attemps.

The Broncos had multiple 5+ yard plays in that game. It's not uncommon to gain 5 yards.

Just mind-numbing stupidity. And none of that takes into account that Russ makes about $2,904,569,023,845,920,345,820,193,452 and is the first not dogshit QB the team has had since Manning. Might as well kick it, fuck it.

Apparently, Wilson is about 66% in his career on 4th downs with 5 yards or less.
