Dennis 'Dillweed' Dodd

So, at a minimum the B10 teams will make a little over a million less, and more than likely make more than SEC teams...

Just think about how much money Big Ten member schools could make if the conference moved all televised events to the Big Ten Network following the conclusion of its current television contract with ESPN/ABC.

That means Ohio State-Michigan would be on the Big Ten Network, but that could be the one scenario that could scare ESPN. Many Big Ten member schools have nationwide fan/alumnus basis as strong or stronger than SEC schools.

I don't think Dodd factored that in.

Sorry to bump this fool's thread after 2 years, but I liked a certain comment that was posted to his article yesterday:

CBS

scooter1369 August 8, 2011 11:39 pmDid someone from Ohio State kicks Dodd's ass at a party once or something? There are a dozen schools out there facing bigger issues than the Bucks but this moron keeps obsessing over Ohio State.

I happened to turn to Bill King on XM radio this morning, to hear this dip [Mark May] go off on how the NCAA could/should still hammer OSU, bacause what Tressel did, allowing "5" ineligible players play last year and then play in a BCS bowl for OSU to get "$20 million" then "I don't know what is getting a competative advantage. He had quite a rant going, even bringing in Gene Smith into it, quoting Smith as telling him over a year ago (with respect to current players at USC suffering over past violations) "at the end, all you have is the institution" thus, Dodd was saying Smith's own words should burn OSU.

Someone needs to remind Dennis of the actual amount paid and then how it is split evenly amongst the conference members.

It's not just that. This quote is from a Dodd article.
A case can easily be made that Tressel's inaction allowed Ohio State to gain a $20 million profit, at least. That's the worth of a BCS bowl berth.

I said this in response in the yahoo/tattoo thread a couple of weeks ago.

No it can't, you pompass ass, if you look at the facts.

The second BCS bowl bid for a conference is worth far less than the first one. For the 2010 BCS Bowls (18 months ago), the AQ conferences received $17.7 million for the first bowl and $4.5 million for the second. After expenses for the school are subtracted, the remaining bowl money is divided equally in the Big Ten Conference.

So Ohio State would have received about 9.1% of less than $5 million dollars for the Sugar Bowl. And if tOSU hadn't been selected for the Sugar Bowl, Sparty would have been the Big Ten's second BCS team, since they were 9th in the final BCS Standings last December.

But hey, Dennis, don't let the facts get in the way of you trying to convince everybody that tOSU got a ton of cash ONLY because they played in the Sugar Bowl.
Any Buckeye fan has my blessing to copy/paste onto the CBS website the next time Dodd mentions the "$20 million" bowl game for tOSU. Which will probably be by this Friday, since that's when tOSU meets with the NCAA.

Well, $410,000 is pretty damn close to $20 million...

Heard it too. He also said that if tOSU didn't get hammered as a repeat offender that the public would take up pitchforks and storm Frankenstein's castle.
