I am relatively new here and I have taken stands on one issue or another and have never been dinged. It is because I back up what I say with facts. While I may not agree with somebody's post I do (as most do here) realize that there are two sides to every story. As long as you act civil and don't resort to mindless name calling you should be fine. I don't know the particulars of your case but perhaps you should reexamine what was said and whether the dialogue was insightful, respectful, factual and appropriate.

Thanks for the message--it's sincerely appreciated. I will follow up, though, and say that I have never called anyone a name on this site. I think doing so is ridiculous and petty. However, I will say that I've been on the receiving end of some pretty scathing name calling, though (I'm sure I don't need to tell you who did so, either).

I should save this post somewhere in the FAQ under; "how do I avoid getting dinged?"

It's not about agreeing with anyone, it's about how you present your opinion, and how well you can back it up.

I've given positive rep to people who have made points I violently disagree with, only because they represented their position well enough that I had to respect and consider it as a valid possibility.

if you are respectfull, then you will not get dinged, i used to be in the -6180 range, and since then ive put more thought in my posts and have been completely respectful.
