I still don’t get the amount of hate personally….his ground rules for athletes going to class is solid. His rules on what they wear to class is even better. His rule they sit in the first (2) rows is nice.
That program was dust until he’s revived some hope and talent into it.
I just think the hate is irrational…it’s odd to me.

It’s one thing to poke fun at him, but then see him build an 8 game winning team after what that had program had turned into…….but then see he didn’t have a single off-season practice as he dealt with organ failure and cancer, had no input on the roster for a large chunk of time…..and admittedly, they’re not a good team this year.
If you don't at least understand it, you're intentionally blinding yourself from it.
But net/net, he’s been a positive force for a lot of kids.
I’m not sure if it’s “preachiness” around his faith, the fact that his program gets too much attention for what it is, or there’s just a general dislike for him.
IMO, it’s a bit irrational though…

Nothing odd about it. Most people here are Midwesterners by birth/culture.
Midwestern culture is built around modesty, duty, and not making yourself the center of the story. The “good person” archetype is quiet, reliable, and steady. You do the work, you don’t brag about it, and if you have to talk about your accomplishments, you understate them. That’s the cultural default.
In that environment, self-promotion doesn’t signal competence; it signals that you violate the local social code. Humility signals reliability. Bragging signals that you aren’t “one of us” and may not put the community first. So the behavior gets punished socially — people withdraw, distrust you, or quietly write you off.
I'm not judging people's take on Deion, I find myself defaulting to this exact same thought process because those are the filters with which I was raised to look at the world too.
Same reason I find the Kardashian's and all self promoters distasteful for how they do it but, I am able to understand why and respect that they have built something from nothing.
