im being nice buckipower....but you dont have a fucking clue......

the past two years the buckeyes brought serious pressure with three or four defensive linemen......thats alll....they would drop smith if needed and rush three and get pressure.....point is the dline controlled the game....period...

this year the dline is flat...no pressure at all...even with all four coming.....to get any kind of pressure...the buckeye d has to commit a lb,cb or safety .....

this takes away from defending the pass.....most especially when sending one or two extra players results in less pressure than the 02 and 03 four dlineman did on their own....

if you dont get that.....you dont get football...

I think this.... Person/Rehring/Boone will all either start/play next year. Boone is just too big and too agressive to sit...... I agree that if our lines don't get back to our usual form we'll probably make things alittle hard again next year. We need to be able to stop the run...... If you gave me a defense that could take away either or passing/running I'd take it any day. The problem is teams are becoming very balanced on us.... I think we're getting much much better up the middle, but still seem to be tripping up on the outside sweeps and counters.I'll boldly predict that we'll see alot of young faces on the Offensive line next year.

The drop off on the DL is evident in the lack of line stunts we run...when was the last time you saw an effective twist or X stunt from the front 4? The fact is, the level of athleticism up front took a nosedive in comparison. D. Scott was a defensive end playing DT...that should tell you what kind of athlete he was. We could loop his ass to the outside on an X stunt and he was agile enough to blow up something outside. These guys just are not on the same level yet.

Oh I perfectly understand you, and yeah this years team isn't as good as last years. I think you're kinda getting alittle off base though here big man. Yeah theres no deny'n that the past 2 years we've been spoiled. However if you look at the numbers even with a better pass rush we're still no better when it comes to giving up yards in the secondary. I'm not trying to argue that the other lines couldn't get pressure but ya know rather even with the lines from the past we still haven't been sharp in the secondary.

i think its hard to accept because we have so much raw talent. yobouty shows flashes of brilliance, hawk is ungodly, and the d line shows flashes as well. and after seeing the type of domination from the line as dihard states so clearly, its hard to not expect these guys to do the same. expecially when we see pitcock come out eat up a double team so schlagel can fly through untouched. then the next play loose a one on one battle.

this is just my take and im not a line guy. but i think they are doing pretty good against the run. im seeing schlagel and carpenter really becoming active against the run. hawk always was but thats because he gets off blocks so well. but so often now i see schlagel and carpenter scrape unapposed and get in on tackles. personally i put that on the d line eating up blockers. i have to think that this kind of development is going to translate into the passing game soon. hopefully sooner rather than later :wink:.

bukIpower, check and see how many knock downs we had per game. sacks are almost irrelivant. its all in how many times a qb has to pick himself up off the loosing side of 500 lb's of angry linemen. that wears on a guy and more often than not will take him out of a game. pressure causes mistakes. mistakes cause turnovers. turnovers equate to points for you.

Only because the secondary was outnumbered and played soft due to the immense blitzing from all angles...

i havent seen a great shot to a qb this year....

they were common before....

dorsey grabbing his head....that pussy from wsu....etc...etc....

they feared for their lives....

Did you hear the chat with Bill Conley where he explained that the reason OSU runs the soft zone coverage is because that's what Tressel prefers. He doesn't want to give up the big play and a soft zone coverage is less apt to do that.

Don't blame Snyder just like you shouldn't blame Bollman for the offense.

God, I never thought I would say this but I miss Cooper, Pugac in your face defense and from 92-98 high powered offense.

Ya they choked against Michigan almost every year because Cooper wasn't very good at Tressel ball against Um.

what IS the point of playing a soft zone with the athletes we have recruited to play at OSU. if the d line is not getting any pressure on the qb what does the zone do for us. do you mean to tell me that we would get burned on every possesion if we went with some man to man. dont we have some of the elite recruits in the country playing in our defensive backfield. seriously what does the soft zone do for us. it lets every team we play march down the field on us on long extended drives wearing out our players. this wouldnt be such an issue except of course for our propensity for 3 and outs with our pitiful offense. does anybody have any numbers for how many times we have allowed other teams to convert on 3rd and more than 10 yards; we have to lead the country in being the worst in that category. if we allow every team we play to march slowly down the field catching uncontested passes or we let somebody burn us on a LONG pass (when was the last time that happened by the way) the end result is the same; they score later rather than sooner but score just the same. heck i would appreciate a quick TD given away on occasions just so our O can get back on the field and try to develop some sort of rhythm. the last purdue drive is a perfect example....pass pass pass down the field nobody playing up on the receivers and we give up a score. highly predictable and highly inevitable

I couldn't agree more. The offense didn't play well, but they tied the game up, and the defense just laid down and surrendered. I think some of that falls on Snyder. I don't know a lot about football, but it looked like we were in a very soft zone with 3 and a half min left in the game. What did he expect to happen? Purdue thrives on that short to mid range passing game, and thats what prevent gives you. I do think Snyder is coming along though, I saw him make a nice adjustment to go to man coverage in the beginning of the second half. Why he didn't stick with this adjustment I don't know, he changed it up when Orton came in. He probably knew something I don't, but still why change something that is working.

I have a feeling the soft zone was not Snyder's call...

I think they were expecting a shot deep down the seam, but Purdue was more than happy to keep taking 10-12 yd chunks on the out routes.

The speed with which Purdue moved down the field had the sideline shellshocked
