DE Solomon Thomas (official thread)

Given some of the previous posts regarding his "interest" in tOSU, I think it's a great sign that he attended Pro Day. Of course, I can't imagine a high school athlete anywhere would pass up such an opportunity.

Film of Soloman.

My Take: Soloman shows good explosiveness off the ball and solid lateral movement. He will need to learn how to use his hands as he gives up too much body and college OL will exploit that. His frame can easily hold much more weight. Good athleticism and a solid prospect.

He is a really solid looking prospect. I think he will get an offer at camp. He is in that athletic mold like Martin, but Martin is more polished. I think that Thomas, could be a sort of a project which would be a good offer for us, b/c we would be able to redshirt him and then be ready to learn from some good DE. Him and Martin would be two book end DE's and would be explosive coming off the edge.

FWIW, Duane Long calls him the 2nd best DE he's ever seen in Ohio...behind only Ben Martin.

Not saying I know better than Duane but sometimes he makes me wonder. First with rating Belton the #3 player in Ohio now this. He means better than Robert Rose then? Though I think Thomas is tough, I tend to disagree.

Rose was still learning the position during the season last year, and still has a way to go. Also Wilson yes people were high on him, but he was still a project and has developed.

Thomas is also a project, but he is a very athletic DE and looks to have explosive ness coming off the edge.

That doesn't take away the fact that Rose was a stud his senior year and finished out with a dominant AA game performance. That was still during his HS career. Now Wilson was a good prospect but like you said crazybuck, he wasn't a 5 star then like Rose and Martin were/are. With that said, I would still love to see us take Thomas.

Yeah, well in his defense he did say during his hs career and he probably wasnt basing that on the Army game which was clearly the reason why he was a 5 star.

I think that Martin is leaning to Notre Dame, so I would like to see the staff go hard after Thomas and if they get him and Martin wants to come, well then that just gives us one heckuva DE class. I think we could see movement on this front during the evaluation period or camp time.

I do too. I think if anything he is leaning OSU if you look at the only real reliable source to get anything on his recruitment(HG). Question for grad. Considering the depth at DE, if we get Martin do you think we have room for Solomon Thomas?

Yes because some of the depth you are mentioning may end up at DT by the end of their career.
