Urban Meyer has flipped the scene in Big Ten recruiting, with two elite defensive line prospects ? Se?Von Pittman of Canton and Tommy Schutt of Glen Ellyn, Ill. ? yesterday reneging on pledges to other schools in favor of committing to the Buckeyes.
?For 5 1/2 months, I didn?t think there was a chance in the world this would happen because Se?Von was sold on coach (Mark) Dantonio and Michigan State,? Pittman?s coach at Canton McKinley, Ron Johnson, said last night. ?Then some things happened recently that made him reconsider, and he flipped.?
What happened for Pittman, ranked ninth among defensive end prospects nationally by Scout.com, and previously Penn State-bound Schutt, No. 5 among defensive tackle prospects by rivals.com, was the Buckeyes stabilized their coaching situation by hiring two-time national championship winner Meyer.
?And it appears they have gained some closure on what?s coming from the NCAA investigation,? Johnson said. ?It was important for Se?Von that he go someplace where he thought he could compete for a national championship some time in the next four years.?
