Antoher one of the surprise offers that always seems to happen just after camp - he certainly has the measurables.

I had a feeling that an Ohio DE would come away from camp with an offer, but I wasn't sure that it would be Wilson.

rivals premium

It might be important for Wilson to have the opportunity to play BBall as well as FBall at the college level. ND and Pitt have both offered that opportunity but because of the tOSU BBall coaching change he has not discussed that possibility yet with tOSU.

I assume now that tOSU hired Matta that will change.

wilson wants to play bball but will tOSU offer for both sports??

One player who was of particular interest at ABCD was 6-6, 235-pound Lawrence Wilson of Akron St Vincent's-St. Mary's, the school that produced LeBron James. He plans to accept a football scholarship, but wants to play both sports. Pitt has offered and said he can do both. Ditto Notre Dame. He is waiting on Ohio State.

Wilson recorded 17 sacks last season in football last season, even though he often got triple-teamed. He averaged close to 16 points in basketball.

"I'm still trying to sort it out," said Wilson, who took an unofficial visit of the Pitt football facilities earlier this year. "I like that Pittsburgh is close to Akron, so my family can get there. It's going to be a tough choice. I just want to take my time and do the right thing."

I can't imagine any school not giving a kid the opportunity to do both. The football coach might see a slight risk of injury, but the BBall coach is getting a free schollie. JT let Salley do it so he must not have a problem. I just don't see the downside.

But you have to be pretty special to start off after the Bowl games in football shape and crack a basketball team that has been playing and practicing together for four months. Salley learned that as well.

16 pts a game doesn't sound like D-1 B-Ball talent, but who knows. I say let him try if he can't make it in B-Ball he will quit and spend his time on Football where his future is. The one concern would be if he refuses to "balk-up" because it will hurt his B-Ball career.

Was Salley on the basketball team last year too?

The thing with basketball...

...is complicated by the firing of OB. If Wilson came to tOSU on a football schollie, it's a freebie for the BB program as he would count only against football. But still, I am sure he would want to hear from the BB coach that he is wanted (JT has already made it clear he has no problem with FB players also hitting the BB court). Now that Matta is aboard, perhaps this can be cleared up. If Matta is amenable (and I don't know why he wouldn't be) he could fire off a letter to Wilson letting him know.

the more i consider this, the more i believe he is a verry important recruit. DE is as important a position as there is on the field, and while we have some promissing players at the position none are proven. 6'6" 230 w/ 4.6 speed doesnt come along too often.
