Bosa’s fifth forced fumble sets up scoop-and-score
Joey Bosa became the NFL’s outright leader in forced fumbles with a game-changing strip sack in the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.With the Steelers leading 7-3 to start the second half, Bosa rushed around the outside of Steelers right guard Mason McCormick to hit Aaron Rodgers from behind and knock the ball out of his hands. His Bills teammate Christian Benford scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a go-ahead touchdown, and the Bills never looked back from there, going on to win the game 26-7.
The forced fumble was Bosa’s fifth of the season, breaking a tie with Aidan Hutchinson, Nate Landman and Josh Sweat for the most in the NFL this year.
Like Ransom, Bosa unfortunately suffered an injury of his own on Sunday, leaving the game late in the fourth quarter with a hamstring issue. It’s uncertain if and how long Bosa – who played in all of the Bills’ first 12 games after missing time with injuries in all of the last three seasons – will be sidelined by the injury.
“We’ll see where that goes,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday.

Joey Bosa has been mentioned as a potential free agent target for several teams in need of a veteran edge rusher, but he may not have designs on returning to the field anytime soon.In fact, retirement seems like a more likely next step than signing with a new team, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on his podcast this week. The 49ers have been frequently pegged as a potential landing spot, which would allow Bosa to play with his younger brother, Nick Bosa, for the first time in their NFL careers. However, Schefter adds, if there was mutual interest in such an arrangement, a deal would have materialized by now.

Clearly, despite his age and injury history, Bosa remains an effective threat off the edge and could likely find work in the NFL if he wants it. He played for $13.2MM last year and, after a solid season in Buffalo, may demand a similar sum to put his body on the line for another year.
Should Bosa choose to retire, he would do so with 77.0 career sacks and 96 tackles for loss, both top-20 marks among current players but far outside Hall of Fame parameters for his position. He also has over $150MM in career earnings, per OverTheCap.
Re: Joey Bosa has an extensive history of injuries that have caused him to miss dozens of games over his NFL career, with persistent issues involving his feet, groin, back, and hips. His notable injury history includes:
- 2024 (Buffalo Bills): Bosa dealt with a calf injury that kept him out of spring workouts. He also suffered a hip injury in Week 3 against the Steelers, forcing him to miss three games.
- 2023 (Los Angeles Chargers): Suffered a right foot sprain/bone bruise in a Week 11 matchup against the Packers, which required injured reserve (IR) and ended his regular season.
- 2022 (Los Angeles Chargers): Tore his groin in Week 3, which placed him on IR and kept him out for 12 games.
- 2020 (Los Angeles Chargers): Dealt with shin and foot issues, as well as two separate concussions that sidelined him for four games late in the season.

It's been a stunning college and pro career. It's meant paying a high physical price. Hang 'em up, Joey, you're already a legend and you sure as hell shouldn't need the money.

Go to Miami for depth and leadership and retire as a Dolphin like your dad and uncle. The extra year of cash in a state that has no State Tax wouldn't hurt either.
